What is a 'mod'?

I see people all of the time on the interwebs who do super simple things, such as painting a case grille and then call it a mod.

Yes, you're changing the case color in that example, but is that really a mod? When I think of mods, I think of someone drilling holes to make some add-on hardware be able to fit, and things like that - something that adds functionality that wasn't there before.

Is this one of those subjective definitions of words?

Am I being a big poopy head? :o

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Mod is short for modification. If you change even the tiniest thing on anything you have modified it.

Mod - Modification.

Congrats, you've now become a smaller poopy head xD

LOL

Ya, but I cringe a little when people do those simple things, like painting a grille and then proclaim it as a "cool mod that I did!".

I 'unno.

Mod is an abbreviation for modification like limo is for limousine.

Do not  as I  do, and  not  as I say. Instead do as you may..

It's still a mod...

Are you expecting everyone to completely design their own case from scratch and make it perfect?

You seriously need to loosen your expectations...

No, I never said that. You're putting words in my mouth (or hands since this is text).

Idk, I guess I understand.

It's not that I don't know what mod/modification means, it's that people proclaim their mod like it's something amazing that they did when it's super simple to do. In your case there's some personal value to you since those decals came off of your car.

I mean it's like, when I see people who go "Look at this cool mod I did!" and all they did was paint a grille on their case, it just makes me roll my eyes.

When I think mod, I go with all of these guys and take it as any kind of modification made that makes it stand out from it's stock counterpart.  Small things really can make a big different.

However, when I think of custom, I tend to think of things as going a bit further than the traditional mod and making it truly something unique that couldn't be easily reproduced.

Is it though? I'd say it has to improve the aesthetics or functionality of the thing.

If I scratched my case I wouldn't call it a modification.

modification (ˌmɒdɪfɪˈkeɪʃən)

n
1. the act of modifying or the condition of being modified
2. something modified; the result of a modification
3. a small change or adjustment
4. (Grammar) grammar the relation between a modifier and the word or phrase that it modifies

. It doesn't seem to cover scratches

I modified my front panel audio be rewiring it correctly since corsair didn't find it necessary for it to work correctly lol

Anyways. Painting is a mod that is for sure. I guess if you intentionally scratch your case that could be a mod since you are distressing your case
