MSI Motherboards BIG problem!

After having my X79 platform motherboard i decided to use the "EASY OVERCLOCKING" Feature to see how far it would stretch my cpu. so i restored my bios to default settings and turned off my pc and pressed in the overclock button. Powerd up the pc and bam a massive spark and smoke coming out were the Heat sink is at the top i think it was the LEDs as it smelt like them.

MotherBoard : MSI X79A-GD65 (8D)

CPU: Intel i7 3930K Revision C2

So my question is what do i do ? Contact MSI? buy a asus board?

Here is the area the the smoke came from. (circled in red)

RMA, receive new one, sell it, buy Asus board if you want.

Another reason to never ever trust overclocking software

Thanks Bro, just wanted to know how far the auto features would "push it"

Yeah, never use the automatic overclocking features. No doubt it chucked a load of voltage at the CPU and fried itself. RMA the board.

Yes i've learnt my lesson :/ going to see if i can get it replaced and then i am going to save up £260 and get a asus x79 deluxe for my main rig and through replace meant in a server :) wil be a nice build if that happens

Don't go X99 if you want relatively affordable, also Z97 with update will support Broadwell Processors so that's something to consider.

Z97 is also a lot more versatile in terms of performance choice you can choose $100 processors (not sure why if Z97 tho) or you can go 200 and 300. X99 (IE LGA 2011) is basically PERFORMANCE ALL THE WAY but quite pricey)

I actually disliked automatic overclock. Once I accidentaly press it and my bios went crazy suddenly become very unstable (MSI Board too).

The damage on your board is simillar to my friend's he burn his vrm. RMA is your best option.
