Hey guys,

I recently got a msi gs70 stealth (2013 edition), and its pretty neat, but one major problem i have been having lately, is that as soon as the memory usage goes over like 3 gigs, or any one program uses more than a gig of ram (usually games) windows freaks out and spams a bunch of low memory warning, even though i have 16 gigs of ram, and both the dimms are working.

This is even more annoying when some of the games i play when this popup appears, crash after the warning, because the popup essentially alt-tabs out of the game.

So my question is if is there way of disabling the warning, or making it so it doesn't appear at ludicrously low memory usage levels...

That is not normal behaviour, it should not be doing that

Perhaps there is a fault somewhere

solution: get more RAM

EDIT: i actually read the post and yeah that shouldnt be happening. have you checked that 16gb is actually registere?

i have 16 gigs of ram, and both the dimms are working.

I presume OP already stated that they are working fine.

I have a similar issue, but only when playing Watch Dogs, and trying to put textures on Ultra (my GPU has 4GB ram itself, and 8GB system memory) or if i reach 6GB ram it gives me the low memory message.

Yeah, i am able to use all the ram (tested through ram disk), and it does register in windows, but windows just has a fit any time i do anything ram intensive, and starts spewing popups on the screen...

Yeah, funnily enough, I has gotten the popup less on my desktop, that has only 8 gigs of system memory, than on this laptop...

Even on my previous laptop that also has 16 gigs of ram, and also was running windows 8.1 later in its life, it gave me no troubles in this regard...

I am not 100% sure, but could it be reffering to VRAM of your graphics card (when playing games)?

That could be true, but most of the games im referring to are fairly old, like the older NFS games, or the first grid... Games that are generally not known for a high vram usage... cough, cough, watch dogs, cough...

And i have msi afterburner's overlay running on all the games i play, and vram usage doesn't really peak over 1 gig...

Dude do you have 64 bit windows OS ? maybe it has a 32 bit OS installed at 3gb you get errors.

First things first check if you have a 64 bit OS on windows properties then look in task manager if you have 16gb of ram avaible.

Stupid Question, Do you have 64bit version of windows?

Jep, windows would only recognize like 3 and a half gigs, if it was 32 it windows...

OP has 2x 2GB cards in SLI, so vram shouldn't be an issue, unless it's something like BF4...

As OP stated, all 16GB of his ram works, so his rig is registering all of it. He is definatley running 64-bit.

Increase your paging file size.

It was set to a max of 5 gigs, on the secondary hard drive, which i would assume to be enough... I'll raise it to a max of 10 gigs, and post back what happens after a restart...

Hmm.. check your memory usage while doing something load intensive and report back to us how much is actually being used, free, and cached. There could be a memory leak somewhere.

The 2 760's are in my desktop... and this is the laptop which has a 765m... it wouldn't make any technical difference, in the vram regard, as even when the 760's are in sli there is still only 2 gigs effectively, and that is what the laptop has aswell.

This might be a long shot, but a friend of mine had a similar issue.

The solution was fairly simple for him:

His games registered the IGP of the CPU as a GPU, so it would run off of them.

He had to select his GPU as graphical unit in windows settings / or driver settings.

But as I said... it's a long shot.

I re-launched some games, and same thing happened...

Even when playing need for speed underground 2, which took up a measly 300 mb of ram, the popup still came up, at around 3.5 gigs of ram usage...and the strange part was that it didn't raise up to that point...

from the moment i started the game the ram usage was 3.5 gigs, yet the popup always comes a few minutes into the game...

Go to C:\Windows\Prefetch and delete the content. This folder contains all the files that it can access fast via memory (something like that). Because you are playing older games, those games might not take advantage of the prefetch-stuff Windows 7 uses and thinks that there is no memory available.

Page file should be a minimum of 1x your RAM and a 3x max, as suggested by Microsoft. (1.5x min, if you have less than 1GB of RAM... but that's very few rigs anymore)

Aside from that, make sure the older games are seeing the 765M, and not the IGPU of the Intel CPU.

I only get this warning when I fill up 13.5 gb out if the 16 I have. I however have page file disabled so it makes sense I guess.. Although 2.5 gb of free memory seems a lot to panic about it. Windows sometimes closes the thing that's taking up the most ram, it's not because it minimises the game.

Besides that you could try this http://windows7themes.net/en-us/registry-tweaks-disable-close-programs-to-prevent-information-loss/, haven't tested it though.

You should still have a page file, even with 16GB + of RAM. Especially if you're hitting that high of a useage, nice to have the extra head room.

Yeah, il try to configure the page file amount, but regarding the gpu usage, all my games are set to use the nvidia gpu in the control panel, and the power button glows orange on the laptop when the nvidia gpu is in use, so i can validate that the nvidia gpu is being used...

Yeah, il have a look at that... but what is the strangest thing, is that the computer starts to be a bit weird after the message pops up.

for the longest time ive just assumed it is windows unnecessarily freaking out, but i noticed that if i have any windows open, like a folder, or a browser, but minimized/in the background, after the popup would come up, it would have to refresh the windows, and the preview in the task bar, would just show a blank image...

Almost as if it is running out of memory, and thus it isnt saving a preview of the window, and refreshing it once it is brought to the foreground.
