Meh, I didn't want to do a build log, didn't think it should be in off topic either so :\

Is PCIe 4 here yet? No

Is Haswell-e or Broadwell or Carrizo here yet? No

Probably, but I've come to dislike my APU so much that I wanted to shout it from the rooftops, and I used the forums instead.

So excited....

you can retire your APU to become a HTPC or fileserver

enjoy your Intel combo

Oh I will. My apu will probably go to my mom, her pc is ooooold.

I wonder if an I3 (I think 550) running at 3.2ghz is better or worse than an A10 5700 running at 3.5 ghz. Thoughts?

Really? I would have thought the APU would be faster since it's definitely newer.

Maybe I'll just sell it, and put an ssd and a fresh reinstall in her machine.

the APU even if its a quad core will perform just like a dual core in most cases

AMD cores are 2 modules, 4 cores

This is only in cases where floating point resources must be shared (only 1 floating point unit per 2 cores) or if cores are overheating and power off to let the other side do some work while it cools down (mainly a problem on FX chips, not so much on APUs).

I do know this is the case for the FX

but I i think the APUs are made the same way too unless they are pure quad cores...

the SSD and fresh install will be the biggest difference maker.

Even though the A10 5700 is newer, AMD has never had the clock for clock execution efficiency Intel has, though the gap has decreased in menial tasks. I imagine at this point it will provide an upgrade, but I doubt it will be a big one.

They have the same modularity as the FX chips, but that modularity again only matters in the cases I mentioned. Otherwise it'll act like a quad core chip.

Interesting, would it function faster than the I3 with a dedicated graphics card? because I do have an old gt520 just lying around that used to be in it anyways.

Read my replies to his claims before you buy them wholesale. Also, the GTX 520 will perform better than the iGPU of the A10 5700. If you had the 7850k we'd have a totally different case, but alas...

^^

GT520 is a really low end GPU to begin with

the A10-5700 has a HD7660D iGPU

the iGPU when used with 1866MHz RAM will perform slightly faster in games

Well, as far as cooling goes (someone else mentioned cooling) I've got an H110, a 212, and a noctua NH-U14S to choose from as coolers so :\

I was thinking about putting the gpu in her machine so that the apu wouldn't have to waste time or energy doing graphics work.
