Can you please suggest me a fair price?

 

How does the 4th generation i3 compare to a second generation i5?

CPU:        Intel Core i5-2400 @stock

RAM:       Samsung 2x2GB 1333MHz CL9

GPU:        Sapphire HD7870 Dual-X 2GB

HDD:        Hitachi 500GB 7200RPM

PSU:        Corsair CX500M + Silverstone single-sleeved 24pin extension

Cooling:  Noctua NH-D14

 

Windows 8 x64 tied to the motherboard (with StartIsBack)

€400 ish,

 

4TH gen i3 will not be as good as second gen i5 in my book lacking in cores and not enough improvement have been made since gen 2. However the haswell remake pentium looks great check out linus' vid on haswell remakes.

Yes, and he can still upgrade to a 2500K for 150$ + get more RAM if needed

I flashed the newest BIOS, so it even supports Ivy Bridge. So later down the line, he can upgrade up to a 3770K.

Not really interested in a dual core without HT. And I believe an i3 should be enough for gaming for me.

Why not just keep it and get a higher end Ivy chip?

I want to go m-ITX. I move my PC often enough and I just want to try it.

Fair enough I have an i3 to game also, but i still think the older i5 beats it.
