I have yet to figure this out.

@0100010101101100011010010111010001100101; not bad, I'd like to see a custom cooler on that baby! 7/10

My specs:

  • CPU
    i7 950 @4.0
  • Motherboard
    Gigabyte GA-X58-UD7
  • RAM
    16GB Patriot Vipers @1866
  • GPU
    Gigabyte GTX 660
  • Case
    Corsair 650D
  • Storage
    Samsung EVOs 120GB x2 (RAID0)
  • PSU
    Corsair HX 1000w
  • Cooling
H100 with NF-P14s
               Sound      Titanium Fatal1ty

Solid config, 1366 Socket, BEAST.

However, the graphics card is a stand-out from the rest, it should've been better for a more balanced configuration.

Stop bloating nonsense, and reason to contribute in a constructive manner.

He doesn't have to, he can fill in two slots and still run in Dual Channel mode which is still plenty for the rest of his system.

Incredible, simply astonishing, love it.

If i had to nitpick on something... well actually two things, it would be the not-very fast RAM, and you could've gone for a newer SSD like the 840 Evo, little details, but for a system with such huge potential, these minor details should've been taken care of.

I am getting round to replacing the RAM and the 830 is what I had in my old system, I left it because I had no issues with it.

Cool, quite reassuring, and yeah if it's for this reason, the 830 is still a very solid drive, just make sure you grap this piece of software to keep an eye on it : http://ssdhealth.com/

SSD has 97% health... however one of my 1TB drives only has 43% health. Thanks for bringing that to my attention, I shall have to replace it. 2TB drive I think? ;)

Just whatever works out for you in that price point, see what your storage needs are, if reliability is a huge factor then a WD Red or Seagate NAS shouldn't be a bad choice, and hammer down that cash, just make sure you back up your stuff in a healthy drive before you swap things out.

Gaming isn't a massive priority for me, so the 660 is just right, in the sweetspot price, the original build had a HD 5870 :)

I see where you're coming at it, well that's appropriate i think. :P

And while i'm at it, @FireFox 's config is pretty well balanced, i rarely see a such thing, i3, a midrange GPU, WD Blue... it's a perfect match.

Got my old rig back up! Still at $40 altogether (only paid for the mobo, ram, video card, processor, and case. Used as an old gaming machine and a media PC, AND a network file server.)...

Well balanced, would give a 9 since RAM could be a little bit better.
