Hi LTT.

Got quite a "nice" offer for my current rig(~900$), and was thinking if it was worth buying a new or sticking with this considering Intel skylake&Nvidia Maxwell coming.

Should I buy new now, or wait and maybe get less or nothing for my current rig?

Current rig:
Asrock Z77 Extreme 6
Intel Core I7 3770K Ivy Bridge OC@4,5GHZ
G.Skill 8GB Kit (2x4GB) 1866MHz
OCZ Agility 3 SSD 240GB
ASUS GTX 560 DirectCU II OC
Antec Twelve Hundred
Antec TruePower Quattro 1000W

To be honest, I'd just get a better GPU and a HDD.

Not really, the CPU is still good and will last a bit longer. New GPU and more storage like said earlier.

What do they know of England, who only England know?

"Well that's what I always said I wanted to be remembered for, for being honest. Nothing else is worth a damn"

Sell the GPU and the power supply. You don't really need that much wattage and you could get something more reasonable and more efficient then 80+ bronze. something around 600watts then grab a radeon 280 and you should be solid. If you need the storage invest in a HDD if not don't worry bout it.

Now if you are saying you have an offer for the whole system It also wouldn't be a bad choice. I just threw something together on http://pcpartpicker.com/p/cfXhFT  few seconds on will be very good for that price point. (you can obviously work things around but w/e) but it's really your call on it. Neither choice is really wrong IMO.

Honestly it is usually the wrong choice to wait for new hardware releases unless they are only a few weeks away. Buy what's good for you at the time the general performance in the parts I chose is good enough for now. Considering intel and nvidia refreshes are many months away it isn't really worth waiting just yet. I mean there are a few ways to go about this new build. Putting it together for the best performance now or maybe skimping on the parts so you don't spend as much can save money and don't feel bad about replacing them in a few months. Choice is really yours but LTT can help you no matter what you do : )

My Rig "Corsair air 540, MSI Z87-G45, i5 4670k, EVGA ACX 780, Gskill sniper 2x8gb 1866 memory, Corsair CX500m modular 80+ bronze, corsiar h100i, toshiba 1.5tb HDD." / Peripherals "Acer H226HQLbid Black 21.5" (Main monitor), Acer S200HLAbd Black 20" (auxiliary), Razer blackwidow ultimate 2013, razer naga 2013, razer goliathus 444x355 speed edition, Sennheiser HD8 DJs"

I am getting tried of my twelve hundred tower and the PSU so really considering upgrading.

Fx. Buying a gtx770 now and then having the new GPU's come out in november would be stupid, no?

I do have more money to put in this new build apart from the 900 I get for this current rig.
Considering overclocking would it be stupid to go for the I7 vs the I5 gaming only, the I7 can reach higher OC speeds I think?

-Again considering OC what would be the better board? Was considering either the asus maximus vii ranger or the hero, or something completely different?

Thinking about getting the AX860 Plat cert from corsair for PSU just to allow upgrades.

If i end up buying new it would be in a corsair air 540 case with custom cooling.

Thanks so far guys :)

Practically speaking upgrade the GPU add more storage and be done with it.

That aside though maybe you WANT to upgrade because its fun to put together a new PC.  If that is the case that you really want to do it and this price offset from the buy offer is good for you then yeah have some fun and put together a new rig

If it were me personally that CPU is good for another 3 years.  I would chuck a better GPU in there and some storage maybe a new case and call it a day.

I would like a new case, and a better GPU so to upgrade it would be something like (I would like to get another PSU aswell, but not really "needed":

ASUS GeForce GTX 770 OC - 2GB GDDR5 2.149,00 kr. 2.149,00 kr.
Corsair Carbide Air 540 - Black 895,00 kr. 895,00 kr.

Pris i alt 3.044,00kr. (~450$)

VS a new system:

ASUS GeForce GTX 770 OC - 2GB GDDR5 2.149,00 kr. 2.149,00 kr.
Corsair Carbide Air 540 - Black 895,00 kr. 895,00 kr.
G.Skill Sniper DDR3-1866 C9 DC - 8GB 636,00 kr. 636,00 kr.
Intel Core i7-4790K Devils Canyon - Box 2.290,00 kr. 2.290,00 kr.
ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO 1.402,00 kr. 1.402,00 kr.
Corsair AX860 - 860W PSU 1.245,00 kr. 1.245,00 kr.
Samsung 840 EVO SSD - 250GB 899,00 kr. 899,00 kr.

Pris i alt 9.516,00kr. (~1700$)
9500 - 5000 I get for my current rig making it 4500 (~800$)

So GPU + Case vs a new rig for 1500dkr (~260$) extra

Thoughts?
