Generic response but the Samsung 840 evo's are good and reliable. They are my go to's for drives now. The MX100 is also a good alternative.

This list includes the most popular value oriented SSDs, they come at cheaper prices but are great choices. Feel free to pick one and ask :)

Kingston SSDNow V300, 120GB : Basic and dirt cheap SSD, it performs way better than a hard drive, but it's still on the low end.

Adata Premier Pro SP600 128GB: better than the V300, but it's still on the average SSD, it's a solid choice though.

Adata Premier Pro SP900 128GB: better controller and speeds than the SP600

Sandisk extreme II 128gb: Great performer, low price.

Crucual MX100 128gb: Better than the older Crucual M500, it has great read speeds, not that great writes at this capacities, the MX100 series perform good and are very affordable,

Adata Premier Pro SP610 and SP920, are the upgraded SP600 and SP900 series, they have a new controller and perform better than their older brothers.

Sandisk X110 128gb: The new series from Sandisk, to compete with the MX 100 from Crucial, they have great specs and perform really good, they are value choices too.

Thanks for stealing my old pic >_>

Speaking of which what'd ya do to your profile pic? I liked the old one xD however maybe try photoshopping ash's hat onto Linus and the new one would work xD

Back on topic: OP Samsung 840 or 850 series kickass, Intel 730 series also kicks ass and is reliable to all hell and back... but those options may bankrupt some people and @ForsakenLive has covered almost all value SSDs. Only other thing I can think of would be getting like a Seagate SSHD but that has a few drawbacks unless your hard driveless and doing like a laptop upgrade in which case  Seagate SSHD or WD Black2 would be my reccomendation.

Which old one?

I realized the GIF didn't repeat really well (too much camera switching) and I hated it after like two seconds.

I should photoshop this face on to Ash's body for giggles.

I did say SSD...

I suggested some SSDs sir .-. or did you only read the very last sentence? You also gave like no other information other than your from the UK but that's in your location on the left and therefor redundant or any budget or what the SSD was for... so obviously I'm gonna try and give extra information...

Looked like a fanart pokemon trainer with a purple background(also had a slightly creepy smile and personally I couldn't tell the gender think it was a guy) wasn't a GIF i know that forsure. It'd just be better if you could do a face swap xD  and face swap Luke and Brock... Would be a win.

Well for one I requested BUDGET SSD's not, and I quote " options may bankrupt some people" , also since it is an upgrade it is safe to assume I already have some kind of storage option and since I asked for SSD's and not SSHD's I don't see why you needed to add that either.

Oh, that was just my character (see: username), who was ultimately replaced with Linus for purposes of this forum. He is indeed a male, but the creator I used was sort of ambiguous.

As I had said someone previously suggested all budget SSDs I could think of.  And Upgrade can also infer that you are replacing what you have now like say a laptop storage upgrade for which I'd not recommend a low capacity SSD... and the question is why are you complaining I only gave more information than you asked for. And it was all factual you were vague to begin with...  Check someone like Pokemon trainer's Sig >.> and think about that next time before you start a thread asking for parts ideas...

Ah okay I liked that picture it suits the name but yes you should try and photoshop make the thing I suggested Ash-Linus/Brock-Luke.

That's the 850 Pro and the 128GB is the price of a 250GB 840 EVO.

Intel 520 is a great choice

Its a bit out dated now. Its also been replaced by the 530 which is even s bit dated when it comes to its tech.

I use mine as a boot drive and games drive, it's 256gb, Crucial M4 at the time I bought it it ran about 200 bucks.  Same drive with the same speeds a year later now are about half that cost.  Oh and I have 190 gb still free on the drive because I moved all the My Documents and other windows system stuff over to the mechanical drive where speed isn't of the essence.

If I were in the market for one today.. I'd go for this.

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/crucial-internal-hard-drive-ct256m550ssd1

The Read/Write is 550/500 with 90k/80k IOPS.  It runs about 155 USD.  But like I say, you get what you pay for.

But you want one with only 128GB.  So, same recommendation.

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/crucial-internal-hard-drive-ct128m550ssd1

The Read/Write is 550/350 with 90k/75k IOPS.  Costs about 95 USD.  ^^^ double the storage and faster for about 60 bucks more on the first one.  But if it's not in the budget then the 128gb will serve you well.

Hope this helps.

Guys, dont fall for high sequential write speeds, because it usually highly inflated (especially on lower capacity drives). Samsung and sandforce drives are using sneaky tricks to get high writes, but in reality they are just as "bad" as everyone else in that price range.

tl;dr

Write speeds dont matter much, so that doesn't have to be a deciding factor

Only the 840 EVO uses tricks. None of the other models do.

Yes they do. ALL of the sandforce drives use compression, so thats a trick aswell (you dont get advertised speeds once you actually start writing files, that are not compressible; i.e most of the large files).

That was said in relation to Samsung drives. Its a undeniable fact that sandforce uses compression. Its actually a feature of the controller.

It should also be noted that some of the Marvell controller based designs also use something like samsung's turbo write that the EVO has.
