No. The i7 would really only pull ahead in heavily multi-threaded applications, such as rendering, video/picture production, maybe a lot of audio work, and a ton of multitasking.

No problem. Honestly, in gaming, you might gain 1 or 2 FPS, but that's within the margin of error.

If it's just gaming, then go I5 or even I3 with hyperthreading and wait for Skylake/Cannonlake and DDR4 and PCIe 4 before you really spend money on a top-end machine. You picked the worst time to build even a 4-year gaming rig unfortunately.

yea i may just hold out till next year for broadwell and the 800 series. When will we get ddr4?

DDR4 is for the X99

 

Broadwell is still using DDR3

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Go for an i5, i7 only shines in multi-threaded applications.

 

And don't just wait for the next things to come out as others suggest; otherwise you'll be waiting forever and never buy anything.
