Alright so I completed my build about a month ago now and I am starting to save up for a high end GPU. I should mention that It will take me a few months to save for the GPU, so I am looking at the September/early October time frame unless something comes up sooner.

As of right now I am looking at getting the EVGA GTX780 6GB, but have also been looking at the EVGA GTX 780 dual classified. My budget is basically what these cards cost (~580 US dollars) and I am located in the states. Currently I am not PC gaming as I am running on integrated graphics, but when I get the card I will be running a single 1080p monitor (for now) and would like ultra settings with as high fps as possible in my budget. I am looking at only doing a single card setup and would prefer to stay with Nividia GPUs. I'm open to other brands of GTX cards, I just like the ACX cooler the best and know EVGA has great customer service.

So what do you guys think? Should I go for the 6Gb version or go for the dual classified version? Or should I just hold off till the GTX 880 is released later this year/early next year?

i will say wait for GTX880

Dual Classy is for extreme OC due to its Dual BIOS chip

GTX780 6GB is not be enough for future 4k gaming

At 1080p there's no need for a 6GB frame buffer, so stick to the 3GB 780. Whichever manufacturer you go with, it will still perform as you're expecting to (high frames on ultra).

Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 780 Ti 3GB TWIN FROZR Video Card  ($599.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $599.99
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

There's a 780Ti for $20 more than your budget, so it may take an extra week or two to save but it'll be worth it.

Otherwise there's:

Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 3GB Dual Classified ACX Video Card  ($519.99 @ TigerDirect)
Total: $519.99
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

As for the 880 - no one really knows when it is coming out, but if you're patient (like me) you can wait out the extra few months to get something supremely better, and much more expensive.

This.

Neither of the 780 options are good for your money. Get something like a 760 until the 880 comes out then get that.

using a 6GB card for 1080P makes no sense because you will never use that but just get a 780 3GB or wait for the 880. your choice

I feel like I am thinking of doing this but instead of a 760, getting a 750Ti FTW. Right now the only game I really want to play on my computer is Bio shock infinite and it seems to handle it just fine at 1080p. For some games, I might need to lower the detail from ultra but by using that card I don't loose to much money when I go up to the 880. It also gives me some time for aftermarket companies like EVGA to get other versions of the 880 out and to see how the cards perform.

I will say that I am a casual gamer, I have my XB1 I use and plan on getting Forza Horizon 2 in September which will more than likely be taking up my time when it comes to gaming. So if the FTW isn't the best in the world for those 6-8 projected months till the 880 comes out it is not that big of a deal.

Ugh I'm so indecisive when it comes to computer parts, I think I have decided on the EVGA 760 SC with double bios. It costs the same as the standard SC so why not. Gonna stop by a computer store on my way home, if they don't have something better I should be ordering it tonight from Newegg.

My previous card was the evga SC 760 ACX (gave it to my brother when I bought my 290). iirc it had hynix memory, with a gtx 680 memory controller, and could hold 7.2Gbps on the memory stable. At my 24/7 overclock of 1280gpu/7000mem, Unigine valley score was around 1950ish, which is about on par with a 7950 @ 1100-1150ish MHZ iirc.

a good buy for 1080p gaming, will not disappoint. the superclocked evga 760 is about on par with a 7950 or a 670.
