Hi guys.

As an absolute noob, I've travelled the vastness of the internets in search for the answers to my question. And after like a whole 5.... minutes, I can't decide between the Intel Core i7 4770k and the Amd FX-9370 Black Edition.

So I plan on doing light content creation on Adobe After Effects CS6 and soon CC. I also use Cinema 4d quite a bit. I also play a tonne of games and would love a cpu which could reliably run Planetside 2 at 60fps consistancy.

I plan on over clocking either cpu. So please take that into consideration if you intend on answering this sexy sexy post.  :P

Kind regards and thx from a sexy ninja

i7 4770k because AMD just plain doesn't have good per-core CPU performance.

i7-4770K, for the things you've stated you want to do, having a good GPU is just as important.

I would go with AMD simply becouse it has more cores and When games start using more cores you wont see the CPU lacking power as fast.

Implying the core I7 4770k will lack power faster than the FX 9370?

the i7 is the better choice I'd say. I don't know how the difference in price is where you live but if you intend to OC I'd rather go for FX-8320 or FX-8350 over FX-9370 if a wanted to save a bit of money in not getting the i7.

Why would you listen to me? I'm just some random guy on the internet!

It's funny because the link you've supplied says otherwise.

Cpu and gpu boss are garbage anyway.

Huh? Intel has hyperthreading and better architecture. AMD is good at image editing, video rendering (multithreaded applications) that use many threads. But in this case the i7 also has 8 threads equal to the AMD threads, i7 is better.

Just because there are more physical cores doesn't mean it's better. Like in cars (amount of cylinders in engine).

i7 is fast enough not to need this many cores and obviously by the link it shows cores isn't everything. plus even if you did need this many cores in the future new better cpu's would be out.

I have to pull you up there, more cylinders in a car is good :P

V8 of a Mustang or a V10 of an Audi R8/Lamborghini Gallardo? You'd be hard pressed...

HOLDEN IS BETTER BECAUSE 6.0L V8s compared to small 4.0L V6 turbos in fords hahahaa

Yea as everybody else has already told you the i7 4770k will always be faster than the fx8000 series in gaming and multi tasking. The performance of the new anniversery pentium has proven that even today dualcores still make amazing gaming cpus so 4 cores is still going to last a long time.

Amd is like - More cores... 5Ghz.. Kicks ass... But really only few motherboards can handle 220W TDP of that CPU, you need really good cooler for that.

Intel i7 4790k is about the same price, less cores, much more efficient, runs cooler, works better, faster.

So instead of going for the 4770K I should be going for the 4790K. You know If Intel named these things in a more destinctive manner(that goes for Amd too btw) noobs like me wouldn't have these problems. Come on Intel! Call your next CPU iteration something like Doom Hammer. Then when you update it call it Doom Hammer 2 or Doom Hammer the 2nd!

Thx guys for your swift and all together friendly and sexy responses.

Now for a good MOBO anyone?

higher numbers are almost always indicitive of something better (or something supposed to be better). Any z97 asus, asrock, Msi, or gigabyte board you want.

I personally prefer Msi and would go with the Msi z97 gaming 5.

Or gaming 7 as there is currently a $30 discount on a 4790k when buying a gaming 7.

P.s. The naming system is still far better than cars. The fucking name never changes and the only way to differentiate them is by a model year.

Z97 officially supports devils canyon (xx90 chips) whereas Z87 needs a bios update to use a devils canyon (xx90) chip. Z97 also supports Sata express and m.2 (potential successors to Sata 3) albeit both are irrelevant now as Sata 3 is only really starting to get maxed out and alternative drives are very expensive.

You may also need a bios flash for a z97 board too. At least I did, but I bought it at launch before the 4790k was out.

As others have said, go for the 4790k it runs like a champ.

And the msi gaming 9? You see the thing is i live in africa. So any price that you guys have there, adds upwards of 50 to 200USD here. (at the very least)

I can buy both the gaming 9 mobo and the 4790K for like 900USD here. So I think i'll do that....

there's no benefit to the gaming 9 vs the 5/7.

Well, none that really matter that warrant the difference. A better motherboard will not yield better performance.
