Microsoft not scrapping plans for retail Xbox Ones to act as development kits

Now Microsoft is saying it is not going to stop the Xbox One from being a dev kit.

Last year Microsoft announced plans to let every Xbox One become a software development kit at some point. Earlier today, Xbox Advanced Technology Group's Martin Fuller reportedly told the audience at the Develop conference that that was no longer the case. Except that's not quite the case. When we asked Microsoft if the comments were accurate, we were told outright: "The comments today were not accurate." Further, a Microsoft spokesperson said: "We remain committed to ensuring the best possible solutions for developers and hobbyists to create games for Xbox One. We will share more details at a later date." Why's this important? Well, for starters it'd allow anyone access to otherwise expensive development tools and thus further along the indie community, allowing practically anyone to make games for the platform.

Still doesn't change anything for me, I am still buying one.

 

And yeah, I still like it better than the PS4. Better game selection, UI and controller to me.

I don't even think it's their fault at this point, but more Microsoft employees running their mouths when nothing is finalized.

I dont understand why they would get rid of it besides modders but for devs this was a really smart move and for them they dont have to manufacture a dev kit and if a dev has already got an xbox one he can just type in his account and bam now he doesnt have to wait for microsoft to send him one.
