Hello, just built my first PC, got a AMD Athlon 760k for my CPU and I got a Cooler Master 212 EVO to deal with AMD's cooling problems with its processor. I turn on the computer, and open Windows 8.1. I go to the temps and they are 55, next time I look their at 80, then down to 73, down to 49, and back up. This is happening when it's idle, it even got up to 91 degrees which scared the hell outta me. Funny thing is, my case seems pretty cold every other component is below 30 degrees, but the CPU is just going everywhere. Perhaps the CPU cooler wasn't good enough, or I just need to reassemble the cooler, and to let you know, I used Arctic Silver thermal paste instead of the normal cooler master one that gave.

The temperature varies from 49-91 degrees Celsius, at 91 I usually just restart the computer to avoid damage.

Thank you to all who may respond

im sure its either a bad mount or too much termal paste how much did u use?

remember a drop is more than enough

try remounting if the problem persists its probably a faulty sensor

So at idle it just does this? Go to task manager and wait til your temps spike and see what's causing the problems..

I do remember seeing when I put it up that the thermal paste was kind of going a bit over when squeezing, I made a square as thin as I could, probably not thin enough.

You are only supposed to apply a pea sized amount on the center of the CPU, the force of mounting the Cooler takes care of everything else.

Crap, ok, I'll just shut off the PC and wake up tomorrow and hopefully fix it. Hopefully no damage is done to the CPU at these temps.

nope dont worry its not damaged, just use a drop of thermal paste

Although Linus was way too liberal in that video.

If you continue to have this problem...then I suspect its just bad readings on the richland. I just made a post with the same issue....its been happening since the start, even with the 212 correctly mounted and pasted.Check my post out and see if it looks familiar.
