PC Specs

CPU: Intel Core i7 4770k haswell

GPU: EVGA Nvidia Geforce GTX 770 2gb

MOBO: Asus z87 PRO V Edition

Power: Corsair TX750M

I'm looking to upgrade my RAM for mmo gaming and application use. I was looking to buy 16gb of RAM (2x 8gb) and I was wondering which models I should go for?

Budget is up to $250, I've heard a lot about corsair and g-skill ram and I want the best possible performance for this price.

I want to know which specific model would be best for my build and which are known for having the best performance.

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

-snip-

Just pick the Ripjaws X line from G.Skill. Either 1600 or 1866 and you're good to go. :)

Considering your budget I would get a 2400MHz kit of G.Skill: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231673&cm_re=G.Skill_2400-_-20-231-673-_-Product

Low price, decent timings for the frequency, and has lower latency @ Cas 11 than most 1600MHz and 1866MHz kits:

DDR3-2400 CAS 9 7.5ns
DDR3-2400 CAS10 8.33ns
DDR3-2400 CAS11 9.17ns

DDR3-2133 CAS9 8.44ns
DDR3-2133 CAS10 9.38ns
DDR3-2133 CAS11 10.32ns

DDR3-1866 CAS8 8.6ns
DDR3-1866 CAS9 9.64ns
DDR3-1866 CAS10 10.71ns

DDR3-1600 CAS7 8.75ns
DDR3-1600 CAS8 10.0ns
DDR3-1600 CAS9 11.25ns

DDR3-1333 CAS7 10.5ns
DDR3-1333 CAS8 12.0ns
DDR3-1333 CAS9 13.5ns

Heres LTT video on RAM from September.

He suggests 8-16 gigs, from 800-2400mHz didn't perform that differently. 1333mhz was at the time the best value for the dollar.

Choose a brand that you trust (lifetime warranty!) and a design that you like if you're windowed.

I always guarantee that no more than 50% of what I say is useful.

That video is dated and not entirely accurate.

I would never recommend 1333MHz memory today, it's latency is just plain bad:

DDR3-1333 CAS7 10.5ns
DDR3-1333 CAS8 12.0ns
DDR3-1333 CAS9 13.5ns

If you read the post, I did say it was from September, and I said 1333 was at the time the best value, but I believe 1600 is now the same price as 1333. I didn't recommend 1333... did i? I summarized the video.

And because the video is from late last year you don't think anything stated in the video is still relevant?

Sorry for trying to provide a very informative link! I promise I won't do it again.

Intel system do not need fast RAM

you are paying more for just to get like 1 or 2 fps which is not even 1% increase

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

''Frequency doesn't matter anywhere. Get the cheapest you can'' is pretty much in the past.

Your budget is big so if i were you i would get a 2400mhz cl10 kit.(ripjaws x,mushkin redline). I personally don't like the looks of them so i would get 4x4gb gskill ripjaws z(2 kits of 8gb=170$) assuming you don't want to upgrade to 32gigs in the future but that is just a personal preference.

 i5 3570k @4.all over the place || CM Hyper TX3 Evo || ASRock Z77 professional-m || 8GB G.SKILL Ripjaws Z 2400mhz CL10 || MSI GTX770 2GB OC'd 1280/3825mhz || ADATA SP900 128GB || Fractal Design Arc Mini R2 || Logitech G502 || Audio Technica ATH-M50

i would say not bother with the overall uberness in picking the ram even when it comes to low latency, we're talking about a few frames here, higher speed/performance ram might be useful for an AMD apu or regular 8 core chip, But intel doesn't need to be having that , even a stock low clocked ram module will perfome as equally as the higer ones (as like in thermal paste temp diference between different brands) , just go for a stock modules or pick something that looks good in your system.

If you really want an opinion GSKILL RipjawsZ DDr3 2400mhz (it comes in a very neat box package & the heat spreader looks cool)

Details separate people.
