Im making this post for a friend, this happens when he plays call of duty ghosts sometimes and he said on dayz sa he gets green dots everywhere when the gpu gets hot (still trying to get a screenshot of that) he has adequate cooling and his gpu never goes above 80 degrees. Is this a problem with the card what could he do to fix it and is it rma time?

Artifacting.

Turn down the GPU clock and turn up the voltage.

Put it back to stock if it is overclocked.

asus windforce r9 280x

Asus doesn't make WindForce.... They make Direct CU II.  Gigabyte is the company that manufactures WindForce.

He said asus windforce and i just carried it over without thinking.. But he just said it iS direct cu II.

Interesting.  Asus is usually a great manufacturer.  This is the kind of stuff I'd expect to see from the likes of Club 3D or Zotac.

Those asus 280xs are faulty, Something with the cooler not making contact. What is happening is the card is getting to like 85c and hotter and he must not be realizing it which is what is causing the artifacting. Used to happen to me when i was pushing my 7950 to its limit.

What is he using to monitor the temps? He could have burnt the chip out which will lower its stability at stock clocks. Either way he is going to need to rma.

Asus 280x was plague with artifacts issues related to VRAM and BIOS issue. I think BIOS issue was fixed but not VRAM. Pray he didn't get same problem with new card after RMA.
