Which CPU is better for gaming: i7 or i5?

The i5 is enough. If you can afford i7 you might as well go for it (if you don't sacrifice other parts).

Huehuehue, I'm surprised that you signed up to LTT before learning about Intel processors. Well, let's start. An i5 is much like an i7, but has 2 differences. An i5 generally has lower clock speeds than an i7 and has no hyperthreading. Hyperthreading is basically a second thread in a core, making the i5s only have 4 threads and i7s having 8. Hyperthreading does not affect gaming performance much but has an impact on CPU heavy tasks. For your money, get an overclockable i5 which ends in a K.

Unless you do some heavy video editing etc etc on the side, the i5 will be just fine for gaming. If you get a K series you will be able to overclock with it. The i7 will also be good for gaming but see the previous comment. lol

i7 is better but less necessary, however if you have the money then get the i7 4770k. Hope that helps.
