7990 overheating

my 7990 is running 40 degrees Celsius on 0% active but when i start playing anything it ramps up to 100% and 85-98 degrees Celsius please help

Is it the stock 7990 with the three red fans?

Is it dusty? Try cleaning it and re-seating the cooler if it doesn't void your warranty. Plus the stuff mentioned above will help us determine the issue.

i just cleaned the card and re-seating the cooler will void the warranty. i have a cooler master 690 ii case with one 140mm in the front 2 120mm in the top and a 120mm in the back

Friend had a similar problem, tried everything from cleaning out dust to applying new thermal paste.  Ended up having to use a liquid cooler.

its not mine it´s my brothers i just borrowing it since his mb is broken dunno how that happent

How did his board break? If it was anything along the lines of a power surge it could have damaged the card.

Oooooh that thing has heating issues. Have you cleaned any dust from the heat sink? Might need to change the thermal paste in case.

Open it up, clean the dust off, replace thermal paste and remount heatsink and reconnect the fans, if this doesn't work then the card is faulty.

Not too much I believe, as he lives on his own without much money.  He went with the NZXT Kraken G10 bracket with a Kraken X40 closed-loop cooler.

use msi afterburner and set a custom fan curve so that it will be louder but cooler also clean it and what is you cable management like PIC?

its on 100% fan speed all the time

btw how much does it impact that my case is always open. never bothered putting the panels on

with a open case there is no real air flow from the front to the back of the computer

 

the HD7990 need some form of airflow or it will just be sucking hot air from the other parts of the computer like the mobo or PSU if it at the bottom
