DT880 :(

AMD Lover

Well I got my DT880's today. I like them but they don't have as much bass and aren't as comfortable as my old Beats so it looks like I'll be going back to Beats.

I know comfort depends on what type on head you have but WTF? Beats are the mose uncomfy pieces of shit ever. Also DT880 and bass... They are known for being flat... Also just noticed that it's the perfect time for a pun. FLAT IS JUSTICE.

Are you for real? Beats are not only overpriced, but have 0 mids, and are extremely uncomfortable, making them an awful listening experience.

Well I got my DT880's today. I like them but they don't have as much bass and aren't as comfortable as my old Beats so it looks like I'll be going back to Beats.

The 'bass' you are used to listening to on your beats is wooly, undefined and overwhelming. The bass your DT880s present to your ears is most likely punchy, tight and rich (if the DT770s are anything to go by). They should respond well to an equalizer. Try adding more bass like that.

Feel free to message me if you want to chat!

Beats will always be dumb, no matter how many "it's-not-complete-crap-anymore-guys-I-promise" 's we get.

why dont you just bump up the base in the EQ of your music player.

keep using it, it will break it in.

my ATH M50 were not comfortable either. but i kept using them and after a while the ear pads formed to my ear/head shape.

Well I got my DT880 Premium's a few months back. I like them but they don't have as much bass but are way, WAY more comfortable than other terrible Beats headphones so it looks like I'll be going keep my DT880's and will I use them until they are entirely beyond repair. And I shall weep and mourn for weeks.

I ADORE those cans so much.

More seriously, I'd advise giving them more than a brief afternoon.  I spent a good 60-70 hours breaking in my cans.  Every day I'd set the volume to a comfortable level and let my music collection shuffle throughout the day while I was out at work.  The bass response improved while some of the more grating highs and sibilance (sic) seemed to smooth out nicely.  To be honest they are only getting better with use.

You're lucky that comfort and sound are entirely subjective so you can defend your decision easily.  However it is almost unanimous that the value for money on these things is awesome.  Fantastic comfort and sound quality/space.  I totally forget I'm wearing them all the time and I frequently think that knocks and footsteps and ambient noises are in my apartment, not on the screen.  They're so good that regularly have to check if my speakers are accidentally playing too... they never are.

I suppose it depends on what sort of bass response you want.  I listen to a lot of very heavy metal and adventurous progressive music, starting to get into a lot of chillout rap, and I actually prefer the clarity and punch of the bass as opposed to overwhelming oppression which I feel suffocates the remainder of the mix.  That's not to say that I don't enjoy a nice sub drop or dive bomb :D  I like bass players that approach their bass and their playing like they are a Funk musician.  I'm a stickler for perfection so I like to capture every little detail.

+1 definitely, so many headphones which I thought were bad when heard right out of the box. Once you break into these cans, you really start to appreciate the sound.

Give the DT880 a good 2 week~1 month break-in.

  • 1 month later...

I have been using DT880 600 ohms for almost a yr now. Last mth i bought Senn HD650. Comparing hd650 and dt880 is a matter of taste. This week I am listening to Dt880, I didn't feel it's lacking in bass or too much treble. But if A and B comparison the differences are apparent. Either you judge dt880 lacking bass and treble emphasis or hd650 to much bass n treble shy. If only can blend between the two it will be a perfect headphone.

Listening for for few hrs, Dt880 is more comfortable since it has a rounded shape cup. Both headphones need power to shine.

Not a thread that needed to be dredged up, thanks.
