5.1 thru RCA... HELP!

Go to solution Solved by Enderman,

Here is a better image I found. You want to use the 6 channel config.

RNpCB.png

The "front speaker out" will go to the regular white+red RCA plugs for '"DVD"

The "rear speaker out" will go to the "surround L" and "surround R" plugs

The "center/subwoofer" will go to the "center" and "subwoofer"

Use three cables like this for the connections:

I have a 5.1 receiver from like 1998 that was given to me by a family member, the Pioneer VSX-d507s. My troubles are there is only R/W cables going in, one is 5.1 front and the other just says 5.1 input. If it does truly have 5.1, how would I set that up on my desktop? Right now I am using the 3.5 to R/W cable. Also please excuse the crappy/ grainy photo from my old galaxy nexus; my Nikon is dead and Note 3 is sleeping (charging/off) across the room. Any and all help appreciated!

Use the DVD 5.1 CH input

And those go into the 5 inputs in the back of the mobo? I'm so used to optical and its so easy that I've never fooled with trying this

Yeah you will need to use multiple 3.5mm jack to RCA cables for all the speakers.

like this, but it may differ depending on your motherboard.

I can figure out a way to do this, what type of subwoofer do you have?

these are emulated 5.1 done by processing, but we can at least make it decent.

My subwoofer isn't powered, I swear my audio setup is so mis matched. I have Panasonic speakers, bose bookshelf speakers, and design acoustics and the pioneer powering those and a Panasonic powering the sub and the design acoustic speakers

I'm going to try 7.1.....??? Honestly that disagram is the most helpful thing I've seen yet. The receiver has front LR and Center LR setup already, and it has a center and rear output, I just don't have center hooked up, so would I use 6?

The instructions i gave you are for 5.1 audio, aka 6 channel. The receiver you have cant do 7.1.

Yeah you would be correct, I thought the front A and B could function as an additional channel. Well thank you for helping me get surround! Before I just had 6 speakers and a sub playing, but now only the front play cause soundcloud doesn't output in surround! Thank god there's a virtual surround on the receiver!

Am I just delirious from sleep deprivation, or are those only 3.1 inputs?

no the yellow white and red on the bottom left are the other half

Yellow is for video, but the red and white would complete a 5.1 signal. Just making sure I wasn't going crazy. :)
