GTX 660 to 770

devilman662

Is it worth the jump? I now have a job for the summer and I'm considering some upgrades to my rig. Im wondering if the GTX 770 is enough of a step up from the 660 to even matter, and whether or not I should just wait a little longer and get a 780 from PNY or similar. Please give me some feedback. Thanks!

The 770 is basically a 680 with faster memory, so yeah, it's a jump from the mid end card to the top end. (from last gen)

Codename: HighFlyer, specs:  CPU: i5 2500k cooled by a H70ish(2 rad)   Mobo: MSI MPower Z77   GPUs: Gigabyte GTX 660 OC 1150 MHZ core, 3150 memory both   RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16G @1600mhz   SSD: ADATA Premier Pro sx900 / HDD Seagate Barracuda 1TB/Samsung 1TB   Power supply: Corsair RM650 80+ Gold   Case Corsair Carbide 500R   5.4 ghz achieved on the good old 2500k, may it rest in peace. Current daily OC is 4.8 @1.41 v

So I have a 7870 (similar performance) and am in a position where I could buy a 770 but am waiting for new cards. Probably will end up getting an 870 so I guess buying a 780 would make sense to me.  I find at 1080p the 7870 still holds up ok.

A 780 is much better, but the difference between a 660 and 770 is really large already. I have a 770 and it runs all my games at 1080p ultra maxed settings 16x AF, FXAA (MSAA depends on games), with 60 FPS stable (75+).

I would say the 770 is a good upgrade with a considerable difference.

It is worth it, but you should not get a new GPU every gen. Get an ssd or something and wait get something like a gtx 880/880 ti or r9 390

i would save a bit more or wait, the 660 is not bad at 1080p and really does decent, the 660ti is basicly the 760 so they cant be that far off

now the diffrence is fairly big but your money might be spent better on a 290, its the same tier as a 780 and will be about 100$ cheaper in most places
