So proud of my brother

WillFromGA

So this morning, I woke up to music to my ears. My brother knocked on the door to wake me up to go to MicroCenter (MicroCenter is a computer warehouse for pretty a lot of electroncis. Mainly in the U.S)

Well he wanted to build a computer and he wasn't sure on what parts to get. I came along and this is what he got.

i5 4690k

EVGA GTX 770 Superclocked w/ acx cooling

Seagate Barracuda 2TB

Gigabyte z97x-SLI

16GB 1866MHz Crucial Ballistics Ram

ThermalTake Arctic Snow case (I think that is what it is called.)

Corsair CS650w 80+ Gold Psu

The total was $1,065.

He has finally joined the PC master race!

Needs for the computer.

1. Gaming

2. Coding and compiling and stuff like that.

3. He is attending Georgia Tech so he just flat put needs a beefy computer.

Well that's what I thought too. It looks pretty good. (Especially since it was only $55.) That was the problem of the build; putting in all of the front headers into the motherboard. In Linus's videos, a lot of the towers he uses have the headers in one block but this had one wire for each (+) and (-) which was really annoying.

The ram was $159.99 after a $10 sale and because we bought a cpu and motherboard combo, there was another $10 off.

He was thinking about but decided to opt out. There was a deal were if you buy a CPU and motherboard combo, you get $10 off a Samsung SSD. I tried to tell him but he said he doesn;t care for boot times and stuff.

Since he is coding, wouldn't the SSD help out a little bit?

@WillFromGA

SSD can be easily added and then using a partition wizard program (free) you can easily clone, restart, change boot device and your good to go.

An SSD makes a HUGE difference again to the "Snappy Quadcore" feel you once had... Windows operates MUCH MUCH smoother as a result of an SSD, it's NOT just for booting fast and shutting down faster, its way more than that.

Nice build, he should be stoked!

Remember when ram was cheap? omfg.

THAT WAS CHEAP (To me)

I'm only 17 and just recently really got into computers and stuff. I remember in the old family computer, I was trying to play Mine Craft but the computer only had 512Mb of Ram. Well I thought if i buy some more ram then I could actually play it. I went to a local Computer store (also I was only like 12 years old or so,) and bought 1Gb of ram.

$45 later, still couldn't play Mine craft. Let's just say my dad was pissed.

Wouldn't think so, but you know... "Once you go SSD, you never go back."

I told him that when he gets done with Windows 7 updates (in about a week lol) he should use some stress tools like Prime 95 for the CPU and Unigine for the GPU just to make sure nothing is wrong.

I have a gaming computer (which he now has the better one :( ) and have a decent  sized steam library that he can play. He did want Wolfenstein (which is a daily deal right now) so he may pick that up.

how much did he spend on the nvidia 770?

probably should have picked up an after market 290 instead, they are not inflated in price now.

I am impelled not to squeak like a grateful and frightened mouse, but to roar...

It was $355 with a $15 rebate. So $340.
