Mp3 files are compressed..things uploaded to Youtube are compressed. Ghetto mp3 from Youtube is compressed x2.

Yes, always, music on youtube is AAC, whatever's ripping it will convert it to mp3 and lose even more of the original sound.

Music on youtube is lossy to begin with let alone after a rip/re encode.

i thought as much. thx m8s

This is why I just pay for spotify premium, its 320kbps and has most the music i listen to anyway, I can download for offline listening which is good, whenever I favourite a song it automatically downloads it for offline listening.

A lot of music on youtube and sadly, a lot of official label videos have crap quality. But if the song is popular enough just search for "songname" and add HD or high quality or something and chances are you'll find someone using a loss-less  source file and the best possible bitrate to upload.

And lately, I've been using spotify now that they decided to stop being dipshits and allow playback on my country (they even sell prepaid subscription cards on convenience stores: take a fucking clue Valve, give Mexicans prepaid steam cards!) quality its still crappy but better than your average youtube video.

Bandcamp is the best for actual delivery of purchased music IMO, they offer a drop down menu of lossy formats, and a dropdown menu of lossless ones, you can take whichever copies you want, one FLAC for the PC, one mp3 for the portable player to save space.

Other than that, FLAC from usenet is still no1, ul'ers always put inlay scans/discs and the audio is lossless as commonly as mp3 albums are to be found on bittorrent.
