hi guys i wan new grapics card witch shud i get eh

Just kidding, I'm not starting another one of those threads.

Is it possible to set up a pinned thread guide thing for choosing graphics cards? It seems like the Red Team vs Green Team threads take over this forum a little bit.

wat

I'm not asking, I'm asking for a thread to be made for people in the future. I already know what graphics card I want.

Because there are too many nVidia fanboys. We all know that AMD cards have a better price:performance ratio (excluding the 750ti).

If it's made by someone who is unbiased and only stated facts, I don't see this being a problem.

you can include 750ti, since you can find 260x for very cheap.

110$ usual price. :P

and for 750ti price, around that you can find 7850 / 265. overclocked it destroys it.

That is correct. But the average consumer will have a crap PSU and if he / she were to overclock an AMD card it may result in the destruction of their system.

I do however prefer the 265 over the 750 ti in terms of performance, but you do have to factor in that the 265 needs a 6 pin connector while most of the 750ti's don't.

I tend to be unbiased.

No no no no no no no no no no no no no no

Pls no actual amd vs nvidia discussion pls no

That was not my intention  :(  :(  :(

well you dont need to overclock, or just overclock without raising voltage

destruction? LuL.

260x and 750ti are pretty close with performance

if they had same price 750ti should be the choice. allthough cooling also is a factor

I tend to be unbiased too.

I can offer to make such a thread, if you can assure me it wouldn't be a repost.

It's a broad topic... Having a sticky thread would require some serious time and thought to include all relevant information about AMD vs Nvidia. Both have so many advantages and disadvantages in so many ways, have different uses, are more adequate in certain form-factors, etc. so there isn't really an overall winner; however if they could be categorised into uses, then determine prices, features, performance, and bingo, you're getting somewhere. There still isn't an overall winner for something so vague. It would essentially need to be down to which program each card manufacturer performs best in... Which is incridibly vast.

I use a Lenovo T440: i5 4300U, 8GB RAM, 128GB Samsung 840 Evo, 14" 900p display and an external 23" 1080p passive 3D monitor. Extended 6-cell battery with internal 3-cell. Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (I only use open-source software -- haven't paid for a single program yet).

Why not just have a thread stickied for the fan boys and then we can all avoid it

What I'm thinking of might avoid a lot of the conflict between fanboys. Whenever someone comes up and asks a "Amd vs Nvidia" question someone can just direct them there and maybe someone could lock their thread to prevent the fanboys from doing their thing.

oh yes, I didn't mean pinned, just a thread explaining that.

Fair enough :)

If it's a locked topic explaining the benefits of both and how nobody should have brand loyalty then yeah sure.

AMD offer better price/performance, nvidia offer slightly more refined products at a higher price point. - It's that simple

I asked if we can do this and it was a simple problem of time/upkeep as things constantly change like AMD now have a shadowplay equivalent.

But I like the idea though

Why? I know each company have other benefits but they aren't really notable. If they are please let me know them.

Generalizing means you are assuming every product that comes out of those companies will have the characteristics you listed, not that you only listed some of the benefits. Every product must be analyzed by itslef, without brand-related assumptions.

Would you say it's generalising if the statement was in line with the company's core values?

For example, if AMD's core values focused on getting as much value to the customer as possible and Nvidia's focused on getting as much performance to the customer, sacrificing a bit of value, would you say that saying AMD cards are generally cheaper than Nvidia cards is still generalising?

Yes, it isn't true for all cards and it constantly changes across generations. A 295x2 is more expensive and faster than a 690 for example (the titan z it another class of product and for games doesn't perform that well) and the 750ti is great value. You can say they are USUALLY cheaper, but not generally.
