I have a XFX 7970 that I have to RMA... again. But I have also been getting LOTS of hours at work (I am 15 so I don't have bills xD) and I have a LOT of extra money. There really isn't anything else I want to buy, and my PC is about right for gaming. 8GB, 240GB SSD 1TB Storage, OC 3570k. So I was wondering if it would be worth upgrading from a 7970 to a 780 ti? I am a graphics whore so I want to run my games at 1080p 60fps maxed out. Is it werf the upgrade? Or should I go with a 290x (780 isn't man enough for me)? What are your opinions? Also what brand/model would you recommend for the GPU you recommend?

I am a graphics whore

I would say if you're truly a graphics whore then you would upgrade.

i would say either wait for the 290XT (or what ever the new one is called)

or wait for maxwell

i think the new 290 is coming soon

Well I don't think maxwell is worth waiting for since 28nm won't perform much better than 780 ti, it will probably just be cooler and more power efficient which I am not TOO worried about since I don't pay for power xD and there isn't any official word as far as I am aware on the new Hawaii GPU.

He has a 7970 though. It wouldn't make sense to get either of those.

I am a graphics whore and the 280x doesn't max very many modern games at 1080p from personal experience.

what are you on about? the 280x is a beast at 1080 and tends to do better then a 770

Okay, I am using a 280x right now. You must understand, if I can't turn all of the sliders up and get 60 fps in the games I play most, I am not happy. My modded skyrim runs at 30 FPS, that is nowhere near acceptable. I have a crazy amount of disposable income so I am upgrading. The question isn't should I upgrade, it's whether a 780 ti would be able to do these things or if I should sit on my hands until I can either afford a 295X2 or a new single card solution comes out.

bad motherboard, it only has 1 PCIE 3 16x slot, the other is a PCIE2 4x slot and with AMD drivers it would cause a lot of frame pacing and micro stutter issues, I have looked into it in the past and it is not a viable option form me since I honoestly don't want to go through the hassle of rebuilding my PC for the 3rd time (Built it once, then switched cases).

i say don't sink any money even if you have ton of it

wait for newer series of GPU

and the 290XTX that is coming has 3072 Stream Processors and will kick the 780Ti proper if the specs wise is true

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Has there been any official word from AMD? Or are we still at the rumours stage. If we are still on rumours it will prolly be more than 5 months in which case it doesn't matter since there is ALWAYS a new GPU 6-8 months a way.

you do realize that skyrim's optimized for nvidia? duh no wonder you aren't but sure if you want to waste money and never get the full potential out of you 780ti or 295x2 by playing at 1080p suuuuuuuuure knock yourself out

AMD decline to comment on this

well unless nVidia can prove that the GTX800 series can play games at 4k on just one card

I will bet my money AMD 290XTX was the final trump card to beat the GTX780Ti and the Titan Black at a sweet price

But remember when the 290x did that against the Titan in November?

Pretty sure mods aren't optimized period. My card can run the vanilla game, it is the 130+ graphics mods and the crazy ENB xD

i'm not talking about the mods skyrim no matter what runs better on intel and nvidia

Also I know everyone hates this phrase, but future proofing is a factor. I would like this card to be able to play all of my games max 4x MSAA 60fps for at least 2 years. And with games like Far Cry 4 coming out, I definitely don't think my 280x will be up for the task when it can't even max Far Cry 3 constant 60 without ini tweaks.
