280X ON TS550 HALP

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD

post-68106-0-77451100-1403755989_thumb.p

Someone please tell me that this isn't going to kill my XFX 550W Core edition?? Should I nerf it to 900-950mHz to keep the power draw down?

I had no idea, I thought the 7970 was a smidgen above the 7950 in power!!

That's the power drawn from the entire system at load. Normal usage will draw much less.

oh right

review tends to use total power draw

oops

do you know if it's voltage locked? If it's not then I can undervolt it and see how that fares?

280x's are unlocked. There's no need to worry about not having enough power unless you're throwing in a few hundred hdd's.

No link provided, but it's probably what WM said, the total system power draw. The 770 for example is drawing 100W more than it should, and no OC is mentioned. And there's no way an OCed 760 is doubling its TDP. Other than that, it's an overclocked Vapor-X edition. What is your card, and are you intending to overclock?

It's exactly that card. First-gen Vapor-X 280X. The graph was from Eteknix's review of the Vapor-X 280X.

It's plenty powerful for my needs and is OCed past GHz edition spec out of the box, so if anything I will be underclocking it if I can. Can't push it that far past the clocks it comes with anyways, since 155 GT/s seems to be the limit for Tahiti XT/XTL (whatever that clockspeed might be).
