quad monitor, dual gpu?

rockking1379

so the title kinda infers the question. i plan to move from dual monitors to quad monitors(dont ask why i want quad, its personal need). right now i am on a single radeon hd 7850. i plan to move up the scales(a significant ways) to something like dual 780s. am i overkilling it here or would a say a single 780 ti be able to handle all four?

Thanks,

rock

You could get a single 780 and if you think it isn't enough get another

gaming? nope

even 4 gpu is not enough to power 4 screens for gaming let alone 1 gpu

for desktop and photo editing, maybe with DP daisy chain

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

i only plan to really play games on one monitor. maybe three if i wanna play flight simulator.

just with two, it struggles with gaming on one and misc on another

that isnt a bad idea actually. i just though oh get it all bought but starting with one and seeing how goes would be a good idea.

Depends on the resolution of your monitors.

I assume you mean 1080p monitors?

yes, 1080p monitors

if you're gonna game on all four, nope.

if you're gonna be just web browsing on the other, watching movies on other screen, yes.

yes, 1080p monitors

4 1080P monitors = 4K resolution

so yea single 780Ti may struggle

dual GTX780 possible but less than 60fps

i don't intend to game on all four at once. the four are for productivity reasons(cant compete with that amount of code showing) but gaming would be done mainly on a single monitor.

then a 7805 would be fine for that kind of stuff, as long as you're happy with your frame rates so far, even though getting another 7850 will increase.

you could always get one GTX 780, and get another in the future.

right now my 7850 barely keeps 60 on bf4 medium with the dual monitor setup. and thats with an OC. thats why i am looking to go up the gpu ranks

i'm pretty sure one GTX 780 will be able to handle constant 60 on medium. even on high.

what's your CPU?

that's fine, you'll run constant 60 on probably on all games you throw at it, with a lil bit of tweaking in the settings.

to navigate on web (and work) you will use 4 monitors

but to play games you will use "one" monitor at the end

a single 3GB card (like the R9 280 or the 780) can do the job, "if" they can run 4 monitors "only"

always keeping in mind that, this is not a 4K gaming building after all

but, i will add one 7850 more to the mix (and use 2 monitors on each 7850) or a single R9 280X

(or i will just use that 7850 you have for the 4 monitors alone lol, i know she can do 3 easy, not sure on 4)

so what your saying is if the card can handle four monitor outputs at once then a single card should do the job just fine. otherwise a second one may be needed for the extra monitor outputs

so what your saying is if the card can handle four monitor outputs at once then a single card should do the job just fine. otherwise a second one may be needed for the extra monitor outputs

at this time, almost all high end cards from AMD can run 4 monitors alone (this is why also almost all have 4 exit like our 7850)

still, you need keep in mind that the 7000 series is a bit old, and our "eyefinity" 2.0 may need we have one DP monitor

my 7850 have two DVI, one HDMI, and one DP, 4 exit total, here is one "close" to the 7850 that i have

http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1160&pid=1499&psn=&lid=1&leg=0

as you can see, 4 monitors, and my 7850 is the 1s gen 7000 (the new R9 270 are way more awesome)

so, yes... we can do the job

but, "if" we need one DP monitor and "if" we don't have one, we "may" need get one extra card (or buy one card more new)

at the end we will play games in one only 1080p after all

you make an interesting argument with that. since they would still use amd drivers both cards could coexist harmoniously. and wouldnt be quite as expensive

i have the same card just not factory overclocked. so i know it has the four outputs on the back but once the two dvi are filled the hdmi is mirror one dvi or disable a dvi. plus the performance of a 7850 isnt great right now. as i said earlier, i barely maintain 60fps bf4 medium with two monitors let alone if i crammed two more on to it

true true, that is why i recommend jump to a R9 280X (if you can) or a 780

but i really don't know the green team on 4 monitors

so, may be some one can give us a hand here

green team with four monitors is as simple as two cards and all four running off DVI.i think red team could do it too but if i ever decided i wanted to use a surround/eyefinity configuration(like for flight sim) then green team wins it since all three in surround could be on dvi and accessory can be on any connector that isnt dvi. they have a handy tool to tell you what you can and cant use.

cool, that bring the 780 back to the game then :)

(i love the R9 290 way also)

i am a bit torn on that. i like the idea of being able to have dual 780s and let them run, then later if more performance is needed i can just toggle sli and let em keep going. but then again just adding a 290 wouldnt be a bad idea either.
