Does RAM Size Affect Kaveri GPU Performance?

I know that RAM speed affects Kaveri's GPU performance pretty substaintially.

 

I'm building a Kaveri build for someone, and they only want 4GB of RAM, but also want good performance out of Kaveri's GPU.

I would recommend to have 8Gb, 4Gb isn't enough, and it will affect performance, if RAM usage is at 100%

In a way, it does. Since it's shared for graphics performance.

 

Though, 4GB is a bare minimum these days, unless all you are doing is light work with the computer.

RAM speed affects Kaveri GPU much more visibly than RAM size. A 2133Mhz RAM will perform better in games than a 1333Mhz one but the gain will be minimal.

Can you even get 4 GB dual channel kits these days? I'm not sure you can, you know. You want dual channel because modern consumer CPUs can read from 2 DIMMs at the same time, roughly doubling performance. You always have enough memory until you run out but, 4 GB is cutting it very close. Especially because the iGPU takes a full GB from that by default, leaving you with very little. Modern operating systems cache at least part of your harddrive in RAM, so having more (within reason) definitely helps with I/O performance. Also, I've been having difficulty getting my RAM to run at 2400 MHz on my A10 7850K. I believe you need to overclock the northbridge a bit to enable those faster speeds, but I don't really have the time right now to test that yet.

Get 8GB since at least 1 or 2GB will be alocated for video only, the remaining 6Gb or 7Gb for system memory.

 

If you get 4GB you'll be left with 3GB or 2GB for system wich is not enough
