To be perfectly honest I don't see the point in waiting. When the 800 series finally hits, sure it'll be better performing, but each improvement is only iterative so the improvement isn't likely to be much, plus they'll be pretty expensive at release. For 1080p gaming right now, a 770 will still max out a hell of a lot of games. I'm running a GTX 660 right now, and I'm playing Assassin's Creed 4 on mostly high settings at around 40FPS by eye. :P

New architecture m8.

OP: I'd wait for the 800-series, unless you think you can sell the 770 and get an 800-series card when they come out.

If you desperately need a new gpu now, get the 780. But if you have something already and can wait a few months,it would be worth it(if the rumors are correct)

Maybe you can buy the whole computer except the gpu.I'm guessing the Intel HD4600 is better than your current laptop's gpu?

My macbook was similar, just had an i5 dual core instead of a pentium dual core.

If you really want a computer now i suggest getting the R9 290 instead of the 770 as that will play future games on higher settings than a 770.

You could also just get a 30 pound GPU from ebay for the time being and then get the 880 during christmas.

eg: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/XFX-Radeon-HD-7750-2gb-Graphics-Card-/261512532375?pt=UK_Computing_Computer_Components_Graphics_Video_TV_Cards_TW&hash=item3ce35c9197

It'll run a 1080p screen with no problem  you just won't be able to play very demanding games.

Spoiler

In my case, I'll wait but that's because the game I'm interested is coming Feb/2015, but if you need a gaming PC now then don't wait, buy whatever you need now. Unless you're willing to go with a cheap budget card like a R7 265/GTX 750 ti, in the meantime...

Dont listen to these guys, i think you should just buy a kick ass system with a 770/780 and have some fun, disregarding whether or not a new gpu might come out in the coming months. Those GPU's (770 and 780) still kick butt while rocking games 60+ FPS in games so dont limit your happiness and have fun while you can man :)
