New laptop for my GF

The Last MeMe
Go to solution Solved by spwath,

Alright maybe ill check some videos of those out

EDIT: I think that her current laptop has this processor in it: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Core-i5-2450M-Notebook-Processor.65510.0.html

Do you think the newer 4510U would be a good step up or about the same? If you read the review for the 4710U it says it can be significantly faster than the 3667U but the 3667U scores less in every test if you look at that one so idk..

4710U: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Core-i7-4510U-Notebook-Processor.115083.0.html

Decent step up. This compares the old cpu with new one, but is actualy talking about 4500U, wich is simmerlar to new one.

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-4500U-vs-Intel-Core-i5-2450M

She will be using it mostly for light gaming (LoL, Minecraft etc...), school work and just general browsing. She would like it to be smaller for portability so anything with a 14" or less screen would be good and her budget is around 1000$. I know she wont be able to get something with a dedi graphics card for that but she should be able to get something with a pretty powerful processor and etc...

Lenovo Y40 or Y410 would work well for that price range I think. Especially the Y40, since it's a lot thinner and lighter. Could also go with Gigabyte p34g.

Laptop - Lenovo Y50   Keyboard - Corsair K95 RGB Cherry MX Brown   Mouse - Logitech G502 Proteus Core   Mousepad - Razer Firefly

The Lenovo Yoga 2 looks really nice, it's the laptop I'm looking into getting eventually.

1000$ and no dedicated graphics card. What?

For an Ultrabook that's pretty normal

I also remember finding this laptop when I was laptop browsing: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834231781

I did a little google search for benchmarks and it looks like the Radeon HD 8530m is about equivilant to a Nvidia GT 730m: http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-HD-8530M-vs-GeForce-GT-730M

It doesn't seem like a really good graphics unit but I'd assume it would be better than Intels on chip graphics.

I like the lenovo idea.

She can't really get decent gaming AND tiny for less than $1000.

A 15.6" lenovo y series is probably about as close as you can get.

Intel 4670K /w TT water 2.0 performer, GTX 1070FE, Gigabyte Z87X-DH3, Corsair HX750, 16GB Mushkin 1333mhz, Fractal R4 Windowed, Varmilo mint TKL, Logitech m310, HP Pavilion 23bw, Logitech 2.1 Speakers

Y40 is 14" isn't it?

Edit: it is

Macbook Air or Surface 3.

can surface 3 really be considered a laptop?

the Air is OK, but has really limited storage... cant fit many games on it

2017 Macbook Pro 15 inch

They dont look half bad... how good is the 4510U processor? Like equivalency for a desktop comparable to an 2500k or what?

That looks like a good laptop but size is super important to her so i think it will be too big

1000 $ is enough for a pretty good GPU, nice processor and a 1080p display...

However, if your gpu is below the GT 730m in performance, it's just not worth it. I was recently looking at benchmarks on notebookcheck.com and those things barely twice the score of an integrated GPU in 3Dmark Vantage.

Spoiler

CPU:Intel Xeon X5660 @ 4.2 GHz RAM:6x2 GB 1600MHz DDR3 MB:Asus P6T Deluxe GPU:Asus GTX 660 TI OC Cooler:Akasa Nero 3

SSD:OCZ Vertex 3 120 GB HDD:2x640 GB WD Black Fans:2xCorsair AF 120 PSU:Seasonic 450 W 80+ Case:Thermaltake Xaser VI MX OS:Windows 10
Speakers:Altec Lansing MX5021 Keyboard:Razer Blackwidow 2013 Mouse:Logitech MX Master Monitor:Dell U2412M Headphones: Logitech G430

Big thanks to Damikiller37 for making me an awesome Intel 4004 out of trixels!

Integraded GPUs do fine for Minecraft and League though and honestly thats all she reallys plays. A 730m would more than suffice for Minecraft with Far render distance and etc... and my old laptop with an i5 2520m (I think) ran League an High @ 1600x900 with 30FPS so she should easy be able to max that out. Any other suggestions guys?
