I'm built a gaming PC for my son, and I'm trying to OC... so could anyone recommend safe voltage and clock settings.  :)

its a  4930k on a  rampage extreme iv black edition cooled by an h100i.

also is nova bench legit?

Will you be my father too? :D

You will need to try for yourself. Set the multiplier to 45 and  try to  find the lowest stable Vcore. voltage.

why cant you recommend safe OC settings are all 4930k cpus different?

im a newbie with pc's so excuse any stupid questions

it's common to be 1.2xxVolte, so try some wher in that area between 1.1~1.259V and when it works try to lower it down a bit and see if it is still stable, if not put it back at the precious Voltage that worked and you're good to go

Yes very different some could probably do 5 ghz on stock voltages where some will not get past 4 ghz-.

i've been able to get 4.1 ghz but i cant remember how to check how many volts, how do i check ? does that mean i have a good cpu? how far do you think i could get?

whay are 4930k's different

If you haven't adujsted you V.core it should be 1.2 V I'd set it at 1.3 Volts put the multipler to 47 and try again. And the lower the multipler untill you get it to be stable for 8 hours running aida 64.

Unfortunately every CPU is different. I'd suggest you do a multiplier of 42 without changing anything else and then testing with AIDA64.

Shouldn't he be doing this himself? I mean, if he's too young to research about OCing and stuff, he shouldn't need a 4930k. xD

Besides, the fun is doing it yourself.

I was able to get 45 at 1.330V for my 3930k on my rampage iv black.

You'll be mostly limited by temperature, in all likelihood.  Pick a temperature that you're comfortable with (I picked 75 for my max), then pick a multiplier that will get you there at load, and find a voltage that will sustain that.

Also check out these posts for how to choose a load line calibration setting.  I would recommend a setting of "High" for this board.

If you're completely new, then I would recommend watching some overclocking guides.  Linus has some good ones on his channel.  You'll want to follow the one for ivy bridge (I don't remember if he has one for ivy bridge, if he doesn't watch the sandy brigde one).

Isopropyl alcohol is all you need for cleaning CPU's and motherboard components.  No, you don't need [insert cleaning solution here].  -Source: PhD Student, Chemistry
