Hey guys, running windows 8.1 here. Self build just a few days ago

Recently, I've been experiencing a black screen just after the windows logo but before the welcome screen on windows 8.1. It lasts about 5-12 seconds.

Some things I've done:

Disable automatic driver update from windows
Reinstall Nvidia drivers (running gtx 770)
Check my startup and keep it minimal (just avast and malwarebytes)

But I don't think it's any startup programs causing it.

Any idea what it could be, and what can fix it? I've installed the latest drivers from Nvidia's website.

Edit: Also tried diagnostic bootup, which enables only core services, still the same deal.

Is it dangerous that the screen is black for 5 seconds after the windows logo? Why would it be?

Are you use VGA? VGA can do that as it's being phased out, it is not cared about, and therefor it takes several seconds to display an image.

You have the same effect when UAC prompt shows. Screen goes black for several seconds and comes back with the UAC dialog box.

Hey. Thanks for the reply. I am using a hdmi cable, haven't touched vga in years.

I'm thinking its some services or something because my startup programs are really minimal, but I can't figure out what service is causing it (if any).
