Post your CPU history with overclock success (or bad luck)

Well, i have had a good amount of CPU's, though not as many as some folk :P

Here i go...

Pentium D 930 Presler 3.0ghz, got it to 3.4ghz using toothpaste (this is not a joke) stable but hotter than a maddafacka!

Athlon II X4 630 2.8ghz I never OC'd this

Phenom II 840 3.2ghz Oc'd this to a stable 3.6ghz, would not do more than this though, used with this foxconn board: MB-025-FC_400.jpg

Phenom II 955 BE got this beast up to 4.0ghz like a boss with 1.4875v, but then i went crazy and put 1.7v through it and clocked it at 4.8ghz, i am sure it was stable, but the CPU was begging to die and did...

Phenom II x2 555 BE This stonking mofo managed to unlock into a fully fledged quad core CPU, and had the balls to go to a minty stable 4.2ghz on all 4 cores.

Board used was my precious MSI 790FX-GD70:

z_gory.jpg

Intel Core i5 2500k.... This thing was simply amazing upon launch, dominating the newer AMD FX in price and speed. I clocked this badass MOFOK to 5.0ghz stable, and also for a short while did 4.8-5.2ghz stable as a variable ratio. Never have i seen such an overclockable CPU, it is mentally insane!

Mobo used: evga_z68_sli.jpg

i7 4930k This CPU had a very short life in my hands, and i only got it to 4.2ghz on a Gigabyte-X79-UP4, due to hard times with money, this was sold.

i7 4770k... my current chip, very happy with it, though it is not as much fun as Sandy at all! i haver her at 4.3ghz currently and don't give to much shit's to OC her higher as temps are pooooooooo.

Mobo used:

oc.jpg

AMD FX 8320 Vishera... a return to the famous AMD, though not quite as fast as we may want, got this bargain for 100 smackers paired with an R9 290, nothing could be better for the price in this instance, paired with the ASUS M5A99X EVO R2.0, i have her at 4.7ghz under Noctua at 1.45v, this is primarily a massive upgrade to the Phenom II B55 (555 x2) for my brother to loan from me.

Share yours guys :)

Well my current is AMD A6-5400k @4.3ghz 1.3625v (1.35 is stock so no I'm not gonna burn it up) under load I reach around 72 celsius

I had an old pentium 4 I could OC to 3.2ghz with stock voltages wasn't big with OC then so I didn't mess with voltages I think it was 2.8ghz stock

The sweetest overclock that was actually was impresive to me, was when i had my P4 3.06ghz Northwood CPU, I was able to overclock it and be stable on air at 4.2 ghz

Only one I've ever tried was an 8350, I had that at a 24/7 stable oc @4.8Ghz on an Asus M5A99X PRO R2.0 with a ghetto mounted fan off of a stock cpu cooler over the socket :D

Pentium 4 524 3.06 ghz stock then 3.3 ghz I think but the cheap Chinese fan slowly went down in RPM a lot so the overclock did not last long

Pentium D 915 2.8 ghz then 3.5 ghz then back to stock

Pentium e6300 2.8 ghz then 3.4 ghz with hyper t4 cooler

Core i5 2500 3.3 ghz with hyper t4 cooler (this was acquired only a couple of months ago)

My oc history is little...

Slot Pentium III (katmai) 500 MHz -> changed multiplier to 10x... (1 GHz...) was mfing stable, but those mbs weren't made for oc :P

Athlon XP 2600+ (2,075 GHz) -> OC Via FSB: 2,5 GHz (1,72 V)

Future: E8400... (yeah... FUTURE... when I get a new PSU...)

That's all :(

But it is classic history, loving the PIII :)

My 2500K wouldn't even post beyond 4.5GHz even at 1.4V with super loose memory timings :( Running it at 4.0GHz 1.25V now since I like even numbers and the performance is more than enough anyway lol, but I had hoped to get to 5GHz :( because, you know... 5GHz.

(Oh yeah, this was on a Gigabyte Z68XP-UD4 (really beautiful board <3) and a H80i with a 3000RPM industrial Gentle Typhoon (don't ask))

Unlucky on the lottery man, my 2500k did 5 at your voltage, though it ran pretty damn toasty nearing 90c in AIDA.
