Aftermarket fan for Hyper 212 EVO

CGurrell

I watched Linus's video about Push-Pull configuration, so I decided to remove the second fan I have on my Hyper 212 EVO (CM BC 120 to be exact). I now want to swap out the stock fan for one that will achieve similar cooling but at lower noise levels. I am currently looking at the Corsair SP120, and Linus's favourite fan (afaict) the Noctua NF-F12 (Both PWM versions). Of these fans (or any others if you have a suggestion), which would you pick for cooling my CPU? I am not overclocking it, I just want to keep it cool to maybe extend its lifetime.

Thanks guys :)

Build specs:

Intel core i5-3470 @ 3.2GHz

Asus P8H61-MX R2.0 (aka megacrap)

Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

8gb DDR3-1333

Sapphire r9 Dual-X 280x
WD Green 2TB
SanDisk 32GB ExpressCache drive (to be replaced in the future by 4 128gb SSDs in Raid 10)
XFX Pro Series Black Edition 1250W PSU (Overkill but bought for less than the RRP of the 750W version)
Zalman Z11 Plus case

Push/Pull in a 212? Does it really make that much of a difference? I tried countless configurations and never saw a difference with 2 fans.

So General consensus is Noctua :) spwath I'll definitely take a look at the Silverstone ap123, Dubesta that's exactly what I thought, which is why I'm switching back to 1 aftermarket fan :)

Oh, alright. I personally like the looks of corsair fans (I have 4), but they are too loud.

Ok so I may have gotten my noctua fans mixed up. I think for cooling using a heatsink, the NF-P12 is better than the NF-F12 as, afaik, F stands for Flow (as in air flow) and P stands for Pressure (as in Static Pressure). Can anyone confirm this?

they are too loud.

And the understatement of the day goes to dubstepa!

I have the 120mm pressure optamized high performance one, and it is louder than the other 5 fans in my case combined.

My dream build is a watercooled 450D or 750D with a i7-4930k and 2 780 Ti's in SLI. My realistic build is a $1500 budget build.

The funny part is that Noctua is brown to begin with.  Yay, toilet humor! Y'know in the bathroom!

Anyway, I remember people recommending Scythe Slipstreams and/or Scythe GentleTyphoons for case fans. I think they're quiet considering people recommend them. Could they work?

A Noctua fan, but as I recall the Hyper 212 EVO uses a 92mm fan, so you might want to check on that.

No. The NF-P12 is an all around fan and the NF-F12 is better designed for static pressure while being slightly louder. The NF-S12 is for open airflow and is the quietest.

So which fan would be the quietest whilst also giving good airflow?

Tmcclelland as far as I know the EVO uses a 120mm fan, I can double check that later on but I'm pretty confident :)

Hidden Orange I'll definitely check out those Scythe fans, see what they're all about :(

HueyTheGod I wonder if the Quiet Edition SP120s are that much quieter?

Thanks for all your feedback guys :) I didn't realise how strong a community this is, glad to be a part of it :)

The NF-F12 would be the most suitable for the 212 Evo.

a ) noctua's aren't the only quiet fans out there

b ) the 212 EVO takes 120mm fans.

Well, they are not relatively quiet, but when you compare a truck to a tank, the tank will be loudest, but the truck alone is still pretty loud. Then, you have your cars that can't necessarily pull a 3 ton trailer, but can still go quite fast and cover a lot of ground while being quiet.

best analogy of my life

I have the Corsair Air Series SP120 (CO-9050013-WW) 120mm PWM High Performance Edition High Static Pressure Fan fan, and I can tell you now - I could use 4 of these to make a hovercraft out of a box.

How loud is it at max RPM? And what model is it? (SP, AF). Not that I would get one again, there are much better options out there.
