Hey guys my current specs are

CPU: i7 4770K
Motherboard: ASUS Z87 Deluxe
RAM: 16GB(2x8GB) GSkill RipjawsX
GPU: Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X
PSU: Seasonic 1000XP

I was just wondering how well a single 290 Tri-X would run at 1440p if recommended I'd be happy to buy a second and also whether you guys expect new 1440p monitors to come out this year? I know Dell usually releases some monitors around July-August but I'm not sure if 1440 is just going to be replaced with 4K. I don't think CF 290s is enough for 4K but is buying a good 1440 monitor this year still a good idea?

Thanks

Looking at a couple quick reviews, the R9 290 handles 1440p on high-ultra on 50-60 fps average. I think you're good. :)

780 does a really good job with 1440p. Also the 290 is pretty good.

My System Specs: (Short list) i7 4770k, GTX 780, many SSD's, a 2 TB HDD(deceased :( ), Corsair 650D. Full list: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/kchriz6097/saved/8dh7YJ

Upgrade Plan: Acquire some Black Noctuas then add 16 or 32GB of 2133MHz memory

a single 290 for 1440P is great option

and when you X-Fire the 290 you can max out 1440P and get above 60 fps

the ROG Swift is the upcoming 1440P monitor which is a 144Hz gamer grade monitor but its a TN panel

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

I had a 650 Ti Boost that ran my 2560x1440 monitor pretty dang well.

4K is too expensive and new to be mainstream, and there isn't anything that can reliably run anything you want at 4K without struggling real hard.

A single R9 290 should be able to run near everything without a sweat at 2560x1440 on high graphics settings. if you go with a 27" monitor (which is what I use) instead of a 32" monitor, your pixel density is higher and you can use lower AA settings which results in less demand on your gpu as well.

So yes its a good time to buy a 1440 monitor. It is getting closer and closer to mainstream over 1080, as 4K becomes the new enthusiast level.

Also, if you do end up being unhappy with the performance of the 290, you can (sometimes) flash the bios to make it run as a 290x, and you can also get a second one for xfire, which will last until 4K becomes the new mainstream and there are new GPUs that run it no problem on their own, which is a good ways away.

Thanks guys.
ROG Swift looks nice but I think I'd personally prefer a nice 60Hz IPS monitor since my 1080p TN is so trash I'd like something with nice viewing angles and colour reproduction.

So the best option would to be buy a 1440p monitor either now or in the near future (if new ones get released) and then since I already have a 290 Tri-X just buy another once prices drop? Then with those 2 in CF I should be good for quite a while with 1440?

Yup, at the moment crossfire 290's or 290x's are the dual GPU setups that will give you the best fps at 1440p.
