Do i need to upgrade my motherboard?

I was going to upgrade my graphicscard really soon. And since i got 16gb of ram, a decent 3,4ghz (unclocked) CPU and a fairly decent motherboard, 3 years old. i was thinking to myself, there is no way i need to upgrade my motherboard if i put in a gtx 780.

Then i bumped into my friend... he said it would be bottenecking to put a gtx 780 if i have a (Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3, Socket-AM3+) motherboard is this really true? It wont like effect performance that much ?

It should be fine. What CPU do you have?

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition

Don't take advice from this friend, ever xD

That board uses PCIe 2.0 16x which is fine for modern graphics cards. You won't see any difference in performance if you upgrade your board.

Nah, it probably wont bottleneck.  Theres no point in upgrading your motherboard now, because if your motherboard is working fine, then theres no problem.
