Forgot passcode for old 1st Gen iPad Mini-- any chance to find a way in without having to factory reset and lose data?

I found my old 1st Gen iPad Mini from back in the day and was hoping to recover some old pictures from it, but unfortunately I can't remember the 4-digit passcode. It only gives you so many attempts before you get locked out, so I've refrained from trying more than 5-6 codes for now out of fear of making things worse. Unfortunately Apple Support hasn't been much help (they just suggest factory resetting it, and since I have no iCloud backup for this device, I'd lose all data). I've seen some shady outdated YouTube tutorials that supposedly allow you to remove the passcode lockout feature and give you unlimited attempts, therefore allowing for a brute force approach, but I honestly have no idea what I'm doing and I'd hate to waste any chance I may have at recovering my old photos. If anyone has any ideas/knows of any solutions, any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
