from my experience. it needs to be at least a few hundred watt above what your gpu pulls. otherwise it will throw a fit and shut down pc when the gpu pulls power.

i got a 1000VA/600W cyberpower thinking it would be fine...normal browsing was fine but minute gpu kicked in it threw a fit and shut down pc. i should have got min 850w or more

buy one of those cheap plug-in-the-wall watt meters, connect everything you want to connect to the UPS, run a worst-case scenario load, then make note of what power you're consuming.

take that value, and do the following:

- double it, because most home/office UPS'es have stupid short runtimes above 50% load, and that gets worse as the batteries age.

- round up to the next capacity actually sold.

- ignore the "VA" rating on UPS'es, and look to the quoted power in watts, there's a long explanation why VA matters to UPS designs, but for a computer you care about the watts.

then verify that the UPS's you're looking at feature the following:

- a 24 volt (or "2x 12 volt") battery. because of the limitations of lead-acid batteries, a double battery's lifespan will be more than twice as long than a single battery.

- ideally pure sine wave, but my stepped approximation units are fine.. just get the nice stuff if it fits into the budget.

- look online for guides how to replace the batteries, and make sure you're okay with doing that, because you will be.

Didnt know that was the case. Ill keep that in mind. Because my current UPS has 1 battery and its lasts about 3 years.

Really cant recommend specific units, but Ive had good luck with my APC branded UPS. The only thing that sucks is the battery die after about 3 years, so every 3 years I shell out $90USD for a new battery.

One thing I would maybe recommend. Look at Line Interactive models. They will cost more, but they can help smooth the power out to your machine.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

my cyberpower has one battery. it just failed after 5 years. and when i looked it up i found better speced batteries then factory, at over half the price that were the exact same size. cyberpower wanted 110 for 1. i got 2 for 70 bucks
