Okay so recently i received my second Asus Directcuii r9 290 and ever since i installed it i keep getting game crashes then a completely red screen, then my PC restarts. I googled it and people said to run some benchmarks. Furmark runs for about 10 minutes then crashes, but BF4 just crashes instantly and sometimes i get the red screen then an entire computer crash. At first i thought it might be my power supply as it is only a Corsair RM750w, but people with AX1200i's are getting it too. Most of the time in BF4 the PC is only drawing 600-650w from the wall anyway.

I am trying to avoid having to RMA the cards as the company i got them from are useless and it will probably take more than a few weeks to get replacements.

If anyone has any ideas what this could possibly be i would greatly appreciate it.

did you test if your 2nd 290 is working correctly? remove your 1st 290 and test the 2nd one for stability.

plus your psu might be cutting it close

Yea, do what bbq sauce said, also check to see if your first one is working?  Are all drivers up to date?  Your PSU is not the issue.

Do you have two Asus cards? Or an asus card and something else? asus has custom PCB and it might cause problems.

Drivers are Catalyst 14.4

Both the cards are Asus DirectCUii

OP do you have artifacts before the crash ? lines crossing the monitor ?

I dont get anything like that its normally just a game crash or a completely red screen and a sound loop (i think thats what its called it sounds like buzzing)

 14.4

Either one of the cards is faulty or a driver's issue

but there is always a chance the psu could be acting up

Reinstall drivers and test each card individually.

^ This is the easiest and fastest way to diganuse the crossfire problem.

I used driver wiper (i think thats what its called) to remove all display drivers then reinstalled them, that didnt help. I have just tested the new card on its own and it didnt seem to have any problems and then i tried the cards switched around with the new one on top, still getting red screen in BF4 with the two cards in crossfire.

Hmmmm, try taking out one card and testing and then do the same with the other instead of having both in there.

Maybe a problem with the PCI-E lane?

I used the first card on its own without issues for about a month and have just played about 10 minutes of BF4 without issue on the second card in the PC on its own. With both cards in there no matter which way around i still get the red screen.

Maybe a problem with the PCI-E lane?

Should i try each card individually on the second PCIE lane down? The one where the second card would go?

So they work fine individually?

Try using the first card in the top slot and the second one down one slot further.

Im using the MSI G45-GAMING in the Define r4 so i only have room for the two cards in the first and second slots :/

Yes.

Il give that a go and let you know what happens. Thanks.

Ok with only a single card in the PC in either PCIE slot it works ok, but as soon as two cards go in at the same time i get the redscreens. I literally have no idea what this could be anymore and im getting quite frustrated.

red screen? not blue ._. probably amd trolling you, expect your bf4 guns to shoot out trollfaces very soon...once the issue has been fixed.

really now! maybe the crossfire bridge is fauulty, but i doubt that since you can run the two cards at idle right? it might be the psu...750 for 2 290 isnt alot...maybe some friend could let you test them in his system? just to clear out the errors (cards bad / mobo, psu whatever) track down the issue furthermore...

i couldnt get my 280x to work for weeks and i tried everything on my machine, but once i checked if the card works on my friends machine (and it didnt) i knew that its faulty so i RMAd it.

good luck on your journey to fix your issues

by crossfire bridge i meant crossfire running thru the PCI BUS if thats how the 290 works ;/ i know that the 290xs do

750W PSU is not enough. these cards both use 300-350 W each on their own your cpu/mobo/drives ect use atleast another 150-200W.. you need a bigger psu.

you will spend 800-900$ on GPU's but wont spend 150-200$ on a better psu?

Reinstall drivers and test each card individually.

Since you have done that  after you replace the PSU and if problems persist make sure you put your power % in CCC overdrive to +50% power load i had issues with a 290x and not having that turned up enough.

My setup uses 620w at full load from the wall. 290X CF and a 3770K at 4.5GHz. Don't tell the OP to spend completely unnecessary money.

750w psu is enough, it hardly draws 650w from the wall under gaming load.

You're not using CCC overdrive to oc or anything? It's pretty much garbage, use AB.

no everything is at stock speeds.

Is a red like this?:

Did you try with previous drivers (13.12 or 14.2; whatever was before 14.4)?

No, would you be able to link me to somewhere i could get those drivers? also yes its red like that.
