I've been trying to decide between the MSI GTX 760 and the Radeon R9270x Windforce OC

My budget is around 200-300 US Dollars

And I am open to suggestions but help on picking between the two would be very appreciated.

I'd get the 760, just because I have the 660ti and they are very similar and it performs amazingly, With my OC'd 3770k I can run everygame out at 60+fps other than crysis and ARMA 3, so yeah it performs brilliantly, however you could save up just abit more for the R9-280x which gives quite a big performance gap.

CPU: i7 3770k@ 4.6Ghz@ 1.23v - GPU: Palit GTX 660ti - MOBO: Asrock Extreme 4 - RAM: Corsair vengeance 8GB 1600Mhz - PSU: OCZ 650watt - STORAGE: 128Gb corsair force GT SSD/ 1TB seagate barracuda 7200rpm

                                                                                         COOLING: NH-U14s/ 3x Noiseblocker blacksilent pros/ Silverstone Air Penetrator/ 2 corsair AF120s

At your budget I would grab a 280x http://www.ncixus.com/products/?usaffiliateid=1000031504&sku=94151&vpn=R9-280X-TDBD&manufacture=XFX&promoid=1141

It will poop on both of them.

I don't know how high-quality of a cooler that is though, so if anybody who is more familiar with it could give some insight that would be amazing.

Dont get the 270X, buy a 270 and overclock it. That is literally all ive found the difference is between the x versions.

My personal 270 is overclocked to 1100mhz(max) on its core which is higher than all the 270X speeds at stock.

Regardless of that, the 760 is stronger. If the money you spend on the 270X however means you can get more RAM, a better cpu a better case whatever I would do that because my 270 hasn't failed me yet at maxing out all my games at 1080p.

If you can spend about 360$ get a R9 290. Otherwise, R9 280/X or a GTX 770.

I'm not sure if you can find a 770 for under $300. Still 280x is perfect for his budget.

Closest one is from EVGA and is a 310$ which a bit over, I would get the R9 280X instead.

280x and all those artifact issues tho.... Thats why I am sticking to Nvidia. At least Nvidia is a new chip instead of a rebranded old one.

Yeah. No. They don't really have artifact issues. Very rare.

Sorry to tell you that nvidia also rebranded. Thats what the whole 7xx series is except for the 780 and 780ti and 750ti.. The exact same as AMD. AMD is all rebranded except for the 290 and 290x. They are both freaking stupid.

At his budget (200-300 usd) the 280/280x is amazing.

Well I only reason I brought it up was because I was planning to get it but I looked at the reviews and so many people had the artifacting issues.

Maybe a specific vendors card. Some can screw up. MSI, Sapphire, and Asus are probably all fine.

Or random bad cards, that happens too.

Lots of Asus and Msi cards had it, I looked it up and it's because the heat sink isn't cooling the ram well or the chipsets heat is interfering with the VRAM and causing issues. Or simply could be bad memory modules?

Link specific cards/reviews? Ik that some specific cards have had major artifacting issues, but a lot are perfectly fine.

I did, edited

Yeah I was just on that myself :P

It isn't happening with all of the cards, so if somebody gets unlucky with one they can just RMA it. That is a high rate of derp though!

Ya just seems like more of a problem compared to artifacts with nvidia cards.

That is probably true. It still becomes a non-issue when you take RMA'ing into account though.

I'm not seeing nearly as much for sapphire or MSI cards. I have heard about quite a few other issues with the MSI ones though.

Btw not a fanboy for either side, I love my 780 though. I'm just saying that at 200-300 USD a 280/280x is great

only the 770 is a rebrand of the 680, the 760 is similar in performance to 660ti but is a different make up, the the 750,750ti, 760,780,780ti are all new cards

The 760 is a tweaked 670 iirc. To the point where you used to be able to SLI them.

Anyways my point still stands, they have both been freaking stupid and done rebrands this time around. The 280/280x at the 200-300 USD price range is great.

I would just straight up get the 780 but its a bit expensive. Especially when I can get something similar in performance for less.

Yeah. Anyways the 280/280x is great for a $200-$300 budget. If you want to bump it up you can get a 290, which will perform very similarly to a 780. You could also get a 770 for $310, which will perform similarly to a 280x.
