I will be moving soon and I can finally get FiOS and I wanted to ask you Gurus whether I should go with Verizon or Comcast, which is faster, pros and cons of both, etc.

I am looking for the best/fastest up/down I can get.

Any information is always appreciated.

Thanks!

Go with Verizon.

You implied that you know of a different company that would be better, can you expand on this please?

The only company better than Verizon would be Google fiber. But unless you live where that's available there is no better.

it depends on the type of person you are. if you want better TV service, FIOS all the way. if you just want the internet, they both have their merits. Fios has much better upload speeds. I have the extreme 105 package from Comcast and although I get 130 down tested and 14MBps(112Mbps) with true downloads, my upload sucks at only 23Mbps. also Comcast is much more practical if you want to use your router as the Primary router. it can be done on FIOS but it is a headache.

they both have their benifits and also have their faults. which is more important to you? easily use your own router or respectable upload speeds

as an aside, Comcast does not seem to bother you about torrents. they haven't bothered me anyways

I don't know much about Networking, but I currently have 3 up, 5 down. So basically anything is better than this. Can you maybe give me some info on THE BEST upload speeds I could get in Northern California? Verizon doesn't actually reach where I'm at... and I don't really know how the router thing that you are talking about works... so...

only 3 up and 5 down huh? don't know much about networking? in that case, I'd definitely go with FIOS. it will be faster than what you have and my friend has good experience with their provided hardware, which they offer support with.

If the price difference is small go for Verizon. I've been a FIOS customer for 8 years now and never once regretted leaving Comcast. The service has been significantly more reliable than Comcast was back in the day (I can think of only 2 short outages in all the time I've used them).
