My headphones of like 7 years just broke and thus looking to get a new pair. It would be for mostly gaming but some movie/tv shows.  Should I get a high end headphones like HDB 630 or go for a cheaper headset and speakers for movie/tv shows? If a cheaper one and some speakers which should I go for?

Need it to be closed backed as I have noisy neighbors

This question has so many variables that are very personal to yourself that only you can answer, and didn't provide that it's almost impossible for us to say. Do you only watch movies by yourself? Then sure, headphones might be better. Do you find headphones comfortable to wear all the time? Do you ever think you'd need to watch movies with other people? Is your hearing good enough to really enjoy the headphones? If you went the speaker/headset route what would you go for with that choice?

Closed back? But then you still hear your neighbors unless you crank it up to eleven?

I recommend Sony in ear speakers (you can get the cheap ones for 10-30 bucks, they sound very much almost the same than the more expensive ones)

And speakers... I was looking to find new speakers for ages until I found out how freaking cheap and good Yamaha Monitor speakers are, bought a pair of HS3, and then another because they're sooo good!

They're like not super loud but loud enough that max volume would be basically too loud in almost all situations and very bassy (but not unnaturally so)

(I got one white pair and one black :D)

The direction tells you... the direction

  • 4 weeks later...

Since you mentioned the HDB 630 just get that, I seriously wish I had those headphones because I've heard through the grapevine that they are game changers.  Wireless so no dac or amp or cord plus the dsp is excellent with great EQ potential.  I had them on order but purchased a project car so cancelled it, otherwise I'm certain they would become my new daily.  If you're not scared by the price then 100% get them.

Audio go Brrrrrr
