What did Amazon do, exactly?

Amazon is Amazon, the storefront and Prime aren't two different accounts. You made a mistake and gave out your account information while also buying gifts on that account. Next time keep that in mind when sharing your account information.

Amazon does many things that make no sense. However in this case there is a simple solution. Two people can share a prime account. So you can have two different accounts that both have prime, and have separate order histories.

In my case the Mrs. pays for prime, so there was no reason for me to also pay for prime.

They had a banner on the Orders page back in May that it was going away, the fact you didn't pay attention to the site is kind of on you.

Yes, I discovered this a few months ago, and was very disappointed as I used the feature a lot. Definitely frustrating for gift buying in my immediate household.

You want to email a dev and they'll go "oh yea" and just make it appear again for you?

Try jefffy.b@amazon.com

You should never share accounts.

AFAIK most services have "family" systems where everyone has their own account but you can regroup them for shared benefits but without the privacy issues.

Agreed, but not Amazon in Canada unfortunately. They have 'profiles', but they share payment methods and order history making it largely useless.

Edit: But sharing an account with a spouse/older child shouldn't really be an issue anyways. It was just super useful for gift hiding, mainly.

Ya, ubless it is a bit imposable to tell from a human, no interest here.

about sharing or not,...it's about having a busy family and the need to "hide" certain purchases from plain sight. We just need a "drawer" where to put some purchases so they are not "discovered" while check order status, doing a return, etc...

I have family accounts but more time than not I find myself checking orders in the family computer while people are around me and I don't want to have to hide to this stuff....it's about convenience. If something works, why change it?
