Hey guys I am using a 1080p IPS monitor and would would like to know if I could get better image quality using my display port instead of DVI any help is greatly appreciated.

Nope, you wont see any difference... you wont see any difference even if you used a VGA cable.

Assuming that you're using a quality cable.

And no, DVI and Displayport both look very good. They are the best interface solutions

Even the best quality cable will not provide any benefit. We only use DVI/ HDMI/ Display Port because Audio signal cannot be carried by a VGA cable which is also incapable of resolutions larger than 2048X1536

The digital cables will transmit the same signal from the GPU to the monitor (1000111001 etc) resulting in the exact same image.

VGA on the other hand will look different.

An exaggerated way of describing it would be "it's a video recording of a video" or "a photo taken of another photo"

Have you ever tried using a monitor with a cheap vga cable. Colors are distorted, refresh lines cover the screen, and the visual anomalies are horrendous. If you are using VGA, you need a good cable. With DVI or Displayport you can use the cheapest cable with no issue

I have used all of them and I have never seen much difference. Guess my VGA cables are pretty good quality xD

Try a $2 Chinese cable. You will tear your eyes out

Personally i have never seen much of a difference, But I'm more of a VGA user. Never get much distortion or any of stuff, and if I do it's cause of the monitor.

not much difference, it just madders on what resolution to frames per second ratio you wish to have

DVI is fine but display port is better in general!

There is absolutely no difference in image quality between the two, since they both pass through a digital signal. The only difference is the maximum bandwidth that they allow, but that's only important once you go to higher resolutions and/or higher refresh rates. As for the cables, I still prefer DVI because it feels more secure to me. Actually screwing in the connector makes it absolutely impossible to accidentally unplug it. Also, if you connect a monitor via displayport it gets "seperated" from your GPU once you switch off the monitor, and that will just wreck your desktop and all icons on it because you suddenly change the resolution (at least on a multi monitor setup). That's why I stick with DVI at least.

DVI doesn't transmit audio, does it? You need to connect audio separately right?

No you won't see any difference between the two seen as they are both the the best display cable you can get

DVI and DisplayPort are both digital connections and no difference can be seen between the two. The big benefit of DP is the ability to drive 4k @ 60Hz and carry an audio signal.

That's right, like everyone said it, there is no quality difference in your case.

The only upside, for you, using DisplayPort, is that you don't have 2 screws like DVI and uses a latch system... that's about it.
