5080 vs 9070xt

Go to solution Solved by y0ur5h4d0w,

the 9070xt lately from what i could read around and in this forum is getting closer to the 5080 specially on latest drivers so i would go for the 9070xt if you don't care much about ray tracing and you don't want to pay an arm and a leg to nvidia honestly.

i personally don't like nvidia and i'm biased by the fact that i use linux as OS but it's undenyable that nvidia prices are high (and the latest nvidia drivers seems to have issues from what i've seen on many posts here)

a head to head here from yesterday (at least it's uploaded yesterday)

Budget (including currency): its about total cost of a 5080 (13 or 14 k SEK)

Country: Sweden

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mostly gaming some fun hobby stuff on UnrealEngine and usually a decent amount in the background.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

SO if i choose the 5080 i play with my current 1080p ips 240hz monitor. Which i know my system is a bit overkill for but i will upgrade to oled 1440p later on maybe a year or little less.

If I go for the 9070xt i also buy a monitor 1440p qd-oled 240hz for about the same price. Ive never had suxh a strong pc before and thats why i originally wanted to try the 5080 then i saw the price for performance on the 9070xt and it got me thinking hahah.

Rest of my system:

MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk wifi

Kingston NV3 M.2 NVMe Gen 4 2TB

G.Skill 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 6000MHz CL30 Flare X

AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 4.7 GHz

Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro 360

Phanteks AMP GH 1000W Platinum Svart ATX 3.1

Ive already bought the system but any tips are welcome on the rest aswell.

So what would you choose?

Usual dilemma is 9070XT vs 5070Ti, not 5080

5080 is a price class above, like 20% faster than 9070XT, but bad value as it's 35% more expensive

Getting a 5080 to play at 1080p is a bit silly imo, get a 5070Ti 🙂

The 9070 XT is comparable to a 5070 Ti in raster performance, worse when it comes to RT.

Up to you whether features like DLSS and better RT are worth the Nvidia price premium.

The 5080 is a different category where AMD has no direct competitor

I'm still baffled I'm the only one who prefers FSR... desktop 3070, desktop 5070, laptop 4070... Any game FSR all the way, DLSS just looks and feels worse (has lower performance too just to underline that "feel"). 👀

So yeah I'm team Nvidia+FSR (don't like raytracing) sue me lol 😂
