Hey guys im in the process of picking all the parts for my rig and i stumbled upon a R9 290 on gumtree for $290, the seller has a couple of the cards for sale (all second hand, only used a few times, apparently) and I just wanted to know weather or not its worth getting a second hand card or buy a brand new card thats not as premium. Thank you in advance.

Honestly buying used cards isn't that big of a deal. Personally I will be building a mITX rig soon and I'm going to buy a used 280x that has been used for mining. They work like a champ still, and they're 1/3 the price

I always buy used parts. I don't see the big deal. They work just fine, overclock how I want, and I save money..

There are risks involving second hand purchases including scams, not working hardware, high failure rates, and potential damage to the hardware if it has overheated or shorted (which you will never know because you have no idea what it has been through)

If you have been lucky so far that doesn't mean some day you will buy something and it will fail in a few months. Then you have no place to return it to, or warranty for RMA.

I'm always careful who and where I buy from. I think the only thing I bought new in my current rig are the tubes, and case. and hard drives.
