Invites cost money. I'd expect them to be somewhere between the difference of what a new one goes for on eBay and current MSRP.

Just get a Nexus and enjoy guaranteed instant OS updates and massive dev support on XDA. Also enjoy not having to contend with a phablet.

uh, no, there was a reddit post about someone (part of the loyal follower thingy) who did get an invite, he was just not allowed to say it until the the 6th. The only people getting it on the 6th are contest winners to distribute invites to others.

I doubt the One's that you see today will ever go on to public sale. They are using them as advertising material for the company so that they can get their name out there. Once they do that and create a second phone that is available to the public, it will likely cost a lot more. 

 

That's just how I feel about it though. My friend wanted a new phone so I suggested the OnePlus One but in the end it was so much of a hassle that it was better to fork out the extra 50 bucks and get a Nexus 5 already.
