I am looking to upgrade, but a 5090 is the price of a small child, so my options would be a used 4080 if I can find one, a new 5080 maybe if I can catch a deal or sale somewhere, maybe one of those special bundles you can sometimes get, or a 9070 XT which is equivalent to about a 5070 TI. A roughly (on paper, not real world benchmarks) 30% increase over my 3090.

What would you do? Could also try to hold out another generation, the 3090 by no means is struggling, just not quite as powerful as I'd like when it comes to UE5 titles, early access stuff, etc. Like grounded 2 right now I can only get about 50 to 70 fps at 1440 on low. And even though it's not optimized, you can sort of brute force better performance with better hardware.

Something doesn't seem right there.

If you're only at 1440p, you certainly don't need 5090 (couldn't even make full use of it) and maybe not even a 4090.

I know a lot of people very happy with their 5070Ti's but here is the thing and its a place I've found myself in being a former 3090 owner. When you buy the flagship part, you almost kinda lock yourself into the next flagship part as its usually the only sensible upgrade. You've waited a full second generation but you also didn't move to 4K like I did. I refuse to pay 5090 prices for a GPU even if I could sell my 4090 for as much or more than I paid for it today.

If I was you, i'd be trying to find a 5080 deal but you're getting to the point with Zen3 even x3D where you might want to consider upgrading that as well.

i've rather suck it up and get a 5090 for 2500usd than pay for a 5080 due to how small the increase is over the 5070ti, i've seen 5070ti as low as 740usd but the increase over the 3090 will be like 35%~, it's not great but i'd probably go with the 5070ti if you have to replace to 3090

I was mainly listing the 90 options just to mention how expensive they are, I really wouldn't get one for 1440 as you said, an 80 series is more than enough.

Not sure where the advice for a 5090 is coming from, makes no logical sense.  I guess it does if it's a pain thing.  5080 hurts, so why not go nuclear!?!?

Your 3099 is a mess.  Grounded 2 should be much more than that.like alot.

There was never any advice for a 5090, as I said in the message you replied to, I mentioned it just because A. its an upgrade even if its too much of one B. because of the crazy price and C. I guess just to make sure it was known I couldn't afford it, so nobody would recommend it.

There is nothing wrong with my 3090 at least on paper, it clocks fine, it boosts like it should, and its at 96% utilization constantly which is not bottlenecked according to a friend. So, I don't know why the performance is worse than yours, it just is, if you'd like graphs or something of the card running feel free to ask I can send that data, I have HWinfo and such, but im pretty sure the card is fine.
