Looking to start more PC gaming, no interest in buying a PS4 or XB1 so eventually console games wont be available for my PS3.

Having come up through the generations of Playstations, I'm super comfortable with those controllers and I know PS3 controllers can connect to PCs but I've been told xBox works better???

So I need to figure out the best option, use the PS3 controller i have and i'm comfortable with or buy an xBox one. What is the best software for connecting them with???  Is there any advantage/disadvantage to PS4 or XB1 pads???

OR

are there any decent PC only controllers worth lookin into???

the big difference between playstation controller and xbox controller is that when playing the game it will probably tell you the buttons from xbox controller instead of playstation. IT would take some getting used to. It mainly comes down to personal preference. If you buy a new controller definitely check out scuff gaming.

Love it and I use it all the time. Just played through Watchdogs with my PS3 controller and this program and it was a lot of fun. Although, I have to admit you need to emulate an XBOX360 controller to mark it work well, but that is no problem with the "motioninjoy" program.

So I would save the money (and since I assume you have paid quite some money for the PS3, you might as well save yourself from spending more) and use your PS3 controller.

The 360 controller is plug and play, and it will always work with pretty much any install of windows that isn't older than XP and you don't need software if the game supports controllers. As far as being best that's subjective, I hate the thumb stick layout of the PlayStation controllers and I always have so I use a 360 pad. There are also control compatibility issues to worry about, most of the time a game on PC will have controller support but it usually only works the best with a 360 pad. There are a couple of Logitech controllers that mimic the layout of a PS controller that you might be interested in if you don't like the 360 pad.

Scuff controllers are pointless on PC, unless you are buying for aesthetics.  These controllers are for FPS console gamers. A controller is useless in an FPS game on PC(unless they have auto aim but even the a keyboard and mouse is more accurate).

X360 controller is good basic and easy to use controller, but not the best (imo). I prefer Logitech F710 over it and Dualshock would be my favorite IF it didn't require drivers and games supported the Playstation icons along with the Xbox icons. But yeah, if you just want something easy, then X360 is fine.

DS3 for PS3 Controllers, But Wired Xbox360 and Xbone(via micro to fullsized usb) controllers work out of the box most of the time (or with drivers straight from microsoft) and companies like RAZER and such make custom Controllers for PC Controller Gamers(don't personally use any but I seen some on Razer and on UNBOXTHERAPY on youtube he has a few different ones by different companies)  the custom controllers can be based on other existing ones,  or fully custom depends, and soon steam is making Steam Controllers :P
