Is it worth it? CPU upgrade

My next pc will have an athlon X4 740 cpu with R9 270 gpu. Should i upgrade to X4 760k? I will be gaming, would there be any fps increase ?

You will need the extra CPU power in some games, but I would just save up a little more and upgrade to something like an FX 6300 or even an i5 4430

next to no performance increase, any single threaded game thats bottlenecked by a 3200mhz quad core (most modern games arent) will be bottlenecked by a 3570k so a 760k wont matter, its the same cpu core underneath just unlocked, but like i said...

itll either be fine....or you'd be better off with a 6300/8320 (if you really need more threads/power), that said if HSA really take off (and it really should) a 7700k/7850k would be awesome! but you'll have to wait for HSA written programs.

I don't think there is going to be a huge difference between the 740 and a 760K, save up and get something more substantial.

if you bought i3 + 750ti system you wouldnt worry about that

 

dont upgrade its minimal upgrade and you throw away money.

unless you manage to sell your cpu for good money, and then buy new cpu + cpu cooler. its up to you.

If i want a FX series card i would have to get a mobo that supports it. Are you talking about the A-10 7700k/7850k cpu? I could afford that, but isn't it like an athlon with onboard gpu? What is "HSA"?

Man AMD really needs a CPU to compete with the gap between i3 and i5... 

 

I want to upgrade from my i3, but i5 is too expensive, a nice AMD CPU inbetween would make me so happy.

@Laurysss there'd be no point in upgrading the Athlon to a 760K. It's a prebuild. You'll spend almost $150 making it to a point where it's safe to overclock the 760K anyway (new board ideally, new CPU and obviously a cooler).
