And your evidence is a Google search?

What exactly is the Intel 0x086? You mean the 8086? That was the first to use the x86 chipset. Like I said, being written in assembler is not really a compliment anymore.

It is more stable. I have used it for as long as Windows and I have far fewer crashes than Windows, and no viruses thus far. Same with everyone I know that switched to OS X from Windows. I can't say the same for my Windows only friends.

Oh I see, because you have used it and haven't has a crash that makes it more stable

The google search shows that there are people out there experiencing crashes in OSX.

My first IBM compatible (mid 80's) had 0x086 stamped on the processor (right or wrong I have referred back to them as that ever since), Just like I said I was using it as an analogy of relevance,  the fact that OSX is unix is irrelevant.  You may as well argue that windows being NT makes it better.  But you can't because better is subjective.

You can't prove it's a statistically insignificant difference with a Google search, and my personal experience is more valuable than that. 10 people with OS X crashes is insignificant compared to the thousands upon thousands of OS X and Linux users who both almost universally agree that Windows is the least stable out of the three. I can verify this, I know a lot of people on SO and Super User that I discuss this with frequently. It doesn't even have to be OS X. Windows is a historically unstable platform in comparison to Linux, ask any Linux user why they use Linux over Windows and stability will always be on their list.

I can even go into why it's stable. This includes not having a registry, having built in trojan protection that actually works, and being open source, (at least to a certain extent.) The code that makes up the OS X kernel as well as many other core drivers such as the file system and network drivers, etc are all open source and can be accessed by anyone at apple.com/opensource They hired the FreeBSD leader to spearhead the initial development and peer review continues today with the code they still share with the Darwin and FreeBSD projects. Basically the parts of OS X that are closed source are the Cocoa frameworks and Aqua, which defines the look and feel of the GUI.

I use OS X because it's the best of both worlds for me. I get rock solid open source code at the core, I can look at it to figure out bugs if I so choose, and on top of that, I get a beautiful GUI with lots of careful design thought going into it. I also get Apple's support, so if I can't figure out an issue myself, I get to blame it on them and they're required to fix it, which is more than you can say for Linux and in the case of hardware Microsoft.

Overall, OS X is simply a much more modern platform than Windows is and I trust it because it has a strong open source core and a beautiful user interface. If you prefer Windows, more power to you. I can't say I agree, but it's your choice.

0x086 seems like possibly a model number, although after what I assure you was exhaustive research, I couldn't find it anywhere. All I know is that the 8086 was the first x86 processor and x86 followed from that.

Your still basing all your opinions on personal experience and ignoring the fact that everyone else has there own experiences.  OSX crashes, this is not an opinion but a fact so get used to it.    I don't care what windows was like 15 years ago, the question is "what is the best OS?" and  Today the best one is the one that works for the individual use case scenario.  End of story.

EDIT: what does "Overall, OS X is simply a much more modern platform than Windows" even mean?  are you saying that MS haven't released anything new?

I'm not ignoring the fact that everyone has their own experiences. I explicitly said that is it works for you, then great. OS X doesn't technically crash, it has kernel panics, and I've only had one in my entire OS X experience (around 1.25 times longer than my Windows experience now) when I installed high-density SODIMMs by accident.

By modern I mean that they essentially refreshed the entire OS in 2000 from the ground up and rebuilt it with the open source kernel. Microsoft never did that, there are pieces of code in Windows that are 20+ years old. There isn't anything necessarily wrong with it, but it seems a bit stale when I still have to go into the registry to fix issues manually on a regular basis.

The flame war ends here. If you're happy with Windows, good for you. I'm happy with OS X and you're happy with Windows. There's no problem with that, we can both be happy with our separate environments, can't we?

Which one is the best?

Windows is sure the cheapest one. Apple is the most user friendly. Windows has more support for games. That is clear.

Which one is the most stable? I don't know.

Windows has the biggest userbase. If logic dictates, the more people use it, the more bugs will be found, and thus windows is the most stable.

Apple has optimized OSX for the hardware they use. Less people use it, so smaller sample size, so less bugs might be found, but than again, if you only have a handful of configurations to test, less things can go wrong -->Apple is the most stable.

I use windows 7 atm, will upgrade to 8.1 in a month or so. I'll probably stick to windows, because I am lazy, and I'm forced to use Visual Studio for my current education. I have used apple a few months ago, but to be honest, I'm just a cheapskate, so I like my "cheap"  Windows over Apple, since the products you buy Mavericks with are more expensive than Windows.

It's a little more complicated than that but your premise is right,  As I was trying to point out earlier (but unsuccessfully) over the 1000's of pc's distributed through the dept of education, I would say we get about 1 with a stability issue for every 400-500 pc's, and 9/10 this is the result of bad hardware.
